Have I spoiled Skyrim for myself?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 2:35 pm

So I've been travelling to each town investing with vendors and selling all of my loot and have now (with the aid of the mask of Clavicus Vile & a couple of Dibella effects) managed to amass quite a vast amount of gold well in exess of 200,000 septims. What can I do with all this gold? I have houses in Whiterun, Riften and Solitude so don't really want/need another one. I've been browsing different vendors inventory but there isn't really that much that's worty buying for my level 43 character.

I guess the one obvious option would be training but any other ideas? There must be more to spend my fortune on, or Is Skyrim now spoiled?

Make it rain on people? I'd shower homeless people with a thousand septums.

There are pretty much two major expenses in Skyrim: training and houses. But if you're sitting on a fortune like that it means you can be choosy with what you loot and sell, which may make dungeon delving more enjoyable as you have less inventory management to worry about.

You got 200000 septims from wandering around towns?

Yea, right...

Pull the other one. `console` and `cheat` comes to mind.

Does not matter if you have 20,000 or 200,000, you will always end up with more gold than you can spend in the Elder Scrolls. Just go buy a horse then your only have 199,000 left to spend. Good luck.

I'm pretty sure the OP meant that he was going around to towns investing in all the places he can sell loot. Now when he makes his rounds to sell off his hoard of stuff he's got a ton of gold. Honestly I'd consider this "expected" if you actually do sell off all the junk you pick up.

Heck I was in the same spot and I didn't really go around to different towns to sell my junk.

Edit: I pick up everything that's even vaguely good. Towards to end of the game I intend to find every possible [free] follower that I've befriended and I'm going to give them top-of-the-line equipment. "It's good to be the Dragonborn's friend" :)

No, just in Oblivion and Skyrim. Morrowind is notoriously difficult to earn gold when you factor in weapon/armor repair, scarcity of treasures, disposition toward vendors, and difficult enemies.

Might want to read the original post properly before calling me a cheat.

I had about 100,000 Septims spare on my main character so I went and gave every begger I could as much gold as I could. One begger got nearly 100 gold from me...I wonder what she did with all that gold....

Anyway, you could put all your gold into a safe in one of your homes and then go about the game with no money trying to raise it again. Could be pretty interesting.

buy all the horses u can find and find an abandoned 'or recently abandoned muhahaha" house that has a fenced area and take all ur horses and leave them in the fenced area and have ur own horse farm.....the women in Skyrim will love you!

Also these comes to mind an idea for a mod idea. one that lets u reverse pickpocket beggers with coin and make it like 100 or 1000 and then wait a min when the begger realizes its got all that money he/she starts screaming 'IM RICH BIIATCH!!" and starts going up to every npc in the area and screams it at them and then have them run outside either to disappear or get mauled by animal/bandit and gets killed all the while screaming "IM RICH BIIATCH!!"....I would soooo endorse a mod that did that

Maybe a future DLC will have a castle you can buy for 1,000,000 bucks?

It's pretty easy to get large sums of money from selling loot, particularly when that person has taken several speachcraft perks. Please don't accuse people of cheating like this.

I second the idea that someone up there suggested, that you stash it all somewhere safe and then try and raise that amount again from absolute zero. It'll certainly be an interesting challenge, too!

if you're looking to burn money and increase some skills, ever thought of buying every enchanted weapon and piece of armour you can find simply to destroy them and learn the enchantments?

The problem with money in this game is that you never have to make choices. Only in the beginning do you save up to buy some nice equipment and a house. After that I can always buy whatever item in the shops I'm even remotely interested in, like a + 17% smithing amulet while I already have a + 15% smithing amulet.

It would be a lot more fun if you really were saving for special stuff and if you had to make choices with your limited money. Shop keepers with distinct (and non-scaled) inventories and unique items and weapons would be great.

Like Oblivion, so much is going to be fixed by the players once the tools are available, and I can't wait.

Don't get me wrong, i love the vanilla game, but for things like this, someone will truly flesh out the speechcraft aspect of the game. It's inevitable when an entire community is working on the game instead of just a team at a company.

Try to fill a lake with it? Since no, other than training there's not much use for such a fortune.

Since game economies are usually out of whack, I tend to spawn a million right off the bat. I do this in almost every game so this is no comment on Skyrim.

I have 400,000 left, so I had to spend the money on something. I don't train much, except for the Pickpocket Trainer. For some reason I just have to have her show my character how to put it's hands in someone else's pockets. :hubbahubba:

I think it is all the Soul Gems I buy to recharge my weapons that have used up most of the money.

Doesn't sound unbelievable to me, I have 115,000 on my character just from looting and I've played 50 hours, if he's played a hundred hours of more he could easily have 200k.

Only thing I ever buy now is soul gems for my weapons.

The economies of these games are totally farkled up ;-) D&D can be like that too. The reality of a dragonborn (or a D&D party)'s effect on local inflation probably wouldn't bear thinking about.

It might be better to not emphasize loot so much but make crafting how you get your great armor and minimize the need for money. Maybe training is done solely as an exchange of favors. Maybe being Thane gives you access to the Jarl's trainers?

Not sure if it word work, but it might be worth a try. Really these sorts of economies are almost always barter economies right?

I have found that training allows me to spend every septim that I earn (harder to do if you are already high level). My first char had over 100k. My current char runs out of money. It would be nice if they provided a DLC that included very expensive items that are worth buying. It might also be nice to be able to spend money on "quests". Maybe you invest 50k to build a smelter in Solitude. Or maybe you can upgrade a local mill or mine. Various ways where you can see a change in the world after spending large amounts of coin.

Investing in speechcraft (Merchant perk), making/selling potions and loot... yes, you can accumulate a lot of gold. NO CHEAT involved... sheesh you people.

My 2nd character has over 200k on her and at level 45. The Riverwood trader has 10K gold when you invest in him and with the Merchant perk you can sell every bit of loot to him. I got the investor perk, so that I can invest in stores, to get RID of some of my gold! I haven't even started Solitude quests. I need to get that house. I have Whiterun and the Riften house so far. I have hardly advanced any main quests. It's boring to have so much gold.

But yea, I make my own armor, I enchant my own armor, I craft and enchant my weapons, so there's not much to spend gold on. I just buy alchemy ingredients and ore LOL

I actually started a new toon LOL I like earning my way up. I make sure to spent enough money, so I have always something to work for. LOL
