Having my 1st Dragon inside City Walls

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 5:53 am

So, I FT'd to Riften (part of a quest) and I was walking around outside for a second cause I figured a Dragon would appear (cause ya know 90% of the time they do..).

I go inside because nothing showed up. I get to the Marketplace area.. and BOOM lands an Ancient Dragon on top of Honeyside..

THIS should be interesting to say the least..

EDIT: Here's a link to a pic I just took with my phone:

OH boy you guys consider yourselves LUCKY then. I swear 100% of the time I FT to Dawnstar I get TWO Dragons.

The only place a Dragon HASN'T shown up for me is Markarth and Whiterun. (I think Falkreath too..)

Editted the OP with a link to a pic. Mostly the town took him out. He just kept hopping rooftop to rooftop.. Riften is THE worst place to fight a Dragon inside City Walls I swear.

When he died he landed right in front of Mistveil Keep. Sure it's going to take decades for the game to clean it up...

I had a dragon appear in Whiterun once. I don't think anyone died, as the guards and I took care of it pretty fast.

I have (luckily) never had a dragon spawn inside a city before. I don't fast travel but I do take the carriage. I do always have a dragon at Dawnstar though and I don't even have to take a carriage either. It just always has one. I don't see many in the wild though. I haven't even been up any of the mountains or near a dragon wall though.

Here I thought Bethesda laid a curse on me with Dawnstar. Glad to know I'm not alone on that one.. lmfao. Seriously.

110% of the time I go there if there isn't at least ONE Dragon.. he's got a buddy with him to join in on the fun. I can't believe I've put well about...300+ hrs into this game (across diff. chars) and this is the FIRST time it's happened to me.

EDIT: Replying to above post. Yeah.. luckily.. nobody died. A couple people almost did (downed state) but in the end I found no bodies.

I read about dragon attacks inside cities pre-release, but I didn't think it was actually in the game, it's never happened to me.

Quick question: Anyone here ever have the Dragon crash violently to the ground like in the trailers? Cause I just did.. 1st time..

FT'd to a place for a quest again, Frost Dragon showed up.. and eventually he nosedived right into a nearby mountain across from me.

Yeah, the first one in this playthru paved a landing strip there by the watchtower when he crashed and burned. And I've had a couple of others crashland. I *think* that'll only happen if you kill them in flight, which (unless you're ubered and/or playing low difficulty) generally means two circumstances: the AI can't find a place near you to land and, thus, it stays in the air past its usual 1/4-1/2 health; there's a lot of ranged allies helping you (e.g., several guards with bows or maybe mages at Winterhold).

Also, I don't *think* dragons will actually spawn inside walled cities (i.e., the five major holds). You know how npc's follow you thru doors if you open them mid-dialogue? Well, something similar can happen if the dragon has spawned in that outer-city cell and follow you into the inner-city cell. It's rare because there's usually a relatively small window between it's presence in the cell and the player's awareness of it ... but, well, you get the idea.

Back when the game was first released, I had a dragon flying over solitude outside the main gate, although it never landed. They should do this more often, but at the same time, any NPC who is not a guard needs to run inside for cover!

You guys are going to be even more jealous. Why?

BECAUSE I just went back to Riften again for something.. go inside the city. RAWRRR here comes an Elder Dragon breathing fire. Really TWO Dragons now inside of Riften?

Oh and guess where this one died? Same spot as the Ancient.. right in front of Mistveil Keep.

Yeah I can see that happening. But the Dragon was nowhere around outside the 1st time.. that's WHY I went inside. Then moments later just comes swooping in.

Same thing just happened again basically, I was outside (@Merryfair Farm) and sprinted to Riften's door. No dragons in sight.. go inside. Start getting close to marketplace, AGAIN, and then here comes Mr. Elder.

The whole dragon crash thing was AWESOME. I've never seen it in-game before. Just svcks cause after I killed it and took the scales/bones.. I got overencumbered quick as hell. Decided to just store all the bones/scales I had on me on the Skeleton. (I had like 6 Bones, 12 Scales) Go back to find the Dragon's Skeleton.. and it's gone. So is the big canyon path it made on impact.

LUCKILY I got a pic of it before all that disappeared. ^.^

Dragon attacks in cities are cool but they don't happen nearly enough. I think it's only happened to me once or twice over my entire 190 hours in the game.

Yeah, had a couple of them attack inside whiterun city, all the times because I FT'd there. It's actually quite sad that they spawn where the player is, instead of roam around on their own....

No dont run to the hills... you need a simi-flat ground with thick cover. With thin like trees(a lot) your more than likely to hit the trees instead... and if your 30k feet up scaling a moutain your screwed...

Well no I've had 2 come to the College, but I've never seen one in a walled city. I've had them in unwalled cities plenty of times. Lol I've even had some in the wild chase me to to the unwalled smaller cities just to cause the havoc.

If you want to put em in the dirt 90% of the time the way you described above, you need to get em in the wing or shoulder with and arrow(easiest when hovering) after 2-3 times they will crash on the 3-4 fly by.( Depending on the amount of damage your doing with a bow the amount of times you gotta hit em in the shoulder) I've had a dragon attack in just about every city now the only one that it hasn't happened is Whiterun(cept the one tied into the main quest but he stays outsied).

DawnStar is a dragon magnet. Non stop invasions there.

I got one when I started Mage College quest line. NPCs acted like nothing unusual happened after a NOVICE mage and my follower pwned the smack of out if. They just acted like it waddnunt no th4ng
