So, I'm going to the College to talk to do the quest "Hard Answers" for the TG. Only problem is I haven't been there yet and you have to choose Destruction/Illusion/Restoration JUST to enter the College.

But this is my Wood Elf, not good with magic at all.. I WANT to pass her Illusion test, but she gives you FEAR which is an Apprentice skill... and my Magicka is still 100 so I can't even cast it.. at all. But I want Illusion if I ever decide to actually do the College quests later on.

Should I spend a couple perk points and just get Apprentice Illusion? Or should I just use Restoration/Destruction and just enter?

I used restoration, don't think I had any perks for it at the time either. I wouldn't worry about which school you go with you'll have plenty of time to level all of them if you want to.

if you already visited the greybeards, you can pass by demonstrating your shout instead of using magic

^This. I have never had to use magic to get inside, I always use shout.

Haven't even gone to Riverwood yet (MQ). I figured it out. Dude wasn't even IN THE COLLEGE. He was in the Frosty Mane or w/e the bar is called in Winterhold. I got past all this BS. Thanks for the posts though! Never knew the Shout could get you in as well. That's awesome!

Darn I didn't know that myself, and I had shouts....My test was to summon a flame atronach, and I was level 3. I just used a fortify magicka potion to get the extra 20 pts or so that I needed.

yeah, when she asks why you want to get in, you say to get an elder scroll. shes all blah blah, and then theres a 'persuade' option, the next one down is that you're dragonborn. She gets all excited and asks you to shout. then youre in.
I guess if you enter the college before the elder scroll part you wont have the shout option.

Ah okay didn't realize there was an actual dialogue for that. Good to know for future playthroughs!
