Having so Many Characters...

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 5:56 am

So I have 13 characters now. Not all of them have so many hours played on them, but most have a minimum of 4 hours, apart from about 2-3.
But anyways!
Anyone else have the VERY annoying problem of having so many characters that when you quickly save, you accidentally save over another character -.-

It's happened to me twice now, and I was wondering if anyone has endured the same pain I have felt?

yeah i do it all the time. But fortunatly If I want the character back i'll just start a new character and make him similar to the one I just deleted. Quick and easy.

In TES and FO i always accidentally save over my main and it frustrates me so damn much. With 40+ characters it gets difficult to save right

What's the point in having that many characters?

Well, I like to try out different things. I hate doing everything in one playthrough, so I spread out which questlines I'm going to do in different characters.
As in, My first character has completed everything. I did everything in that playthrough. But my second playthrough, I was a High Elf Mage. I only completed the College of Winterhold to start with. Then I advanced to complete the mainquest, then I started maxing all the magic based skills, which I'm till in the process of doing.

Not only all that, I just really enjoy the game. It's my favourite game! So I'm just playing the hell out of it untill my eyes bleed!
Plus, DLC is comming out soon, so I've made a new Breton Mage character to try out all the new stuff Vampires have ;)
My first character I've made will probably be part of the Dawnguard crew. He's just cool like that.

I've never had this problem of finding it hard to load saves. What are you guys doing making 70 saves? I have 7 saves because i have 7 characters. When im done with one i'll make a new one and delete the oldest one.

I have about 20 characters but before I shut down I always make a clean save (usually on top of the last clean save for that character) and then I also quick save just to make sure.

If I want to keep playing the last character when I start again I just hit Continue, if not then I load whomever I want to play.

I don't have a problem loading saves, and I don't have about 70 saves. I do the exact same thing as you, I have 14 Saves for 14 characters. One save per character. Although, my 4 main characters have 2 saves each, incase something messes up on one save and I save the game, I can reload on the other saved game. Makes sense really.

I'd say try and quicksave on your main character so you know thats its your main. Quick load is very helpful with quick save. Ha ha its annoying savig quicksave, it reminds me of a supermarket that we used to have KWIKSAVE.

Can't say as I have ever lost anything due to a bad save (or a bad saving decision).
One of the pros of the PC, if you quicksave over another characters quicksave, alt tab, rename the backed up quicksave to something else, carry on. :)

I once had a save file get corrupted, so I would never have only one save per character.

But I admit I go too far in the other direction. Many of my characters have over 500 saves, and a couple hit 1000+.

I save after I sell. I save after I discover a new map location. I save before I take a quest. I save after I take a quest. I save when I am about to enter a hostile area. I save after I finish a quest. I save before I turn in a quest. I save after I turn in a quest. I save when I level up. I save when I go in the kitchen to get a soda. I save before I spend a perk. I save after I spenda perk. I save when a play session is over. I save if my save I just made felt wrong (happened too slow or too quick). I save for many other reasons.

You dont even want to know how often I QuickSave.

Fumny thing is, I dont think I have ever loaded a save, other than when I start a session.

I am on the PC so I have the luxury of direct access to my save files. At the end of a session, I copy all my save files from "Saves" to "Saves.Zoya" or "Saves.Ivan" or "Saves.CharacterName" so that my characters each have their own folder. When I start a new session, I empty all my saves from the "Saves" folder to the trash, then I copy the latest save of the character I want to play from his own folder to the "Saves" folder.

I periodically zip up newer saves and burn them to DVD.

So yeah. I may have "issues".

I always triple check I'm saving over the right file, as I also like to have lots of characters, but it has happened a few times, although I'm more careful now than I used to be lol.

I'm on the 360 so when I am not playing a character I put them into cloud storage. When I am finished with one and want to play another I create one save, delete the others and move that character to cloud storage. Then I move the character I want from cloud storage into my hard drive.

What exactly is cloud storage?

I just save a new file every time. No worries about over-writing. Don't have to worry if I have to quickly save and run out the door for something either. (Also in experience with previous games (both TES and others), with PC and consoles, not overwriting tends to corrupt/glitch games less for me).

However, the next time I START playing, I go through, and clean up all but 2 of my saves for whichever character. Note that I STILL keep two saves, just in case of corruption, a bug, over-zealous clean up (deleting all but one save is better than deleting all saves), or if I bugger up on a quest and saved without realizing it.

Also on Xbox, so no Quick-Save, and no access to save files.

I have 2 Saves for every character I got, although 14 characters does seem like quite a bit too wide-spread.
We share the same Idea, I'd hate to have a character that is Mr. Perfect and is the master of everything.

but the diversity part I lack is that all my Characters are Khajiit ._.
I've had Human characters before, they just did not make me content.
