Having to switch to novice almost every fight

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 11:59 pm

Now, don't get me wrong on most fights I wreck people from the shadows. One shot most enemies.

But dragons? Lol. It's honestly getting stupid.

Level 21
Full elven armor with Krosis helm
260 hp
Ebony Bow
52 archery skill
50 light armor skill, 230 armor

Yet I cannot do any damage at all to a dragon and I get 2 shot by breath. I dont get it.

What am I doing wrong? I simply can NOT kill a dragon on adept, its impossible. Even if I get a sneak attack off, thats still only like 10% of its hp. Then it flys around, breaths on me, im at half hp. It lands, breaths again, dead.

Maybe try carrying a 40% resist ice necklace? Or a 40% resist fire necklace? Just equip which ever one you need appropriately.

Hmmm... I'm not having this problem, and I have less HP and worse armor than you...

I'm going to be mean and suggest you don't try to tank a dragon.

Personal experience of playing a mage with 100 hp with no resists on master, you should be able to hide behind cover and make pop shots. And take out any dragon without ever getting hit.

You can just make the necklace yourself. Just look for an item with Fire or Ice resist and disenchant it.

Use resistance-enchanted armours and jewellery. Use COVER. Get a companion/horse punching bag (I recommend Shadowmere). Use poisons. Use shouts (Dragonrend and Unrelenting Force are both free staggers, Slow Time lets you aim more precisely, Elemental Fury lets you swing faster).

Use your surroundings to block the dragon shouts, e.g. a large rock.

Get the lord stone, 25% magic resist and +50 armor rating. Also the temple of mara quest in riften will give you a permanent 15% magic resist.

Also look for fire/frost resist armor/jewelry.

At level 15, 20, 30, 40, and 50 I've been great against dragons. Never had a problem, except the dragon priest + 2 dragons at the end of the game. I beat down dragons, on both my rogue and 2 hander.

Are you really trying to stand there face to face with a dragon and fight it as a light armor assassin with no resist gear?

I'd reply with "You're doing it wrong" but I'm thinking you're smart enough to already know that.

Use the environment around you to your advantage. Hide behind rocks or other structures. Enchant one bow with fire damage and enchant another bow with frost damage and use them in accordance to what type of dragon you're fighting. Obviously, if you're fighting a fire breather, frost damage is going to be a lot more helpful than fire damage, and vice versa.

There is absolutely no reason for to think you can stand there and go toe to toe with a dragon as a Khajit assassin.

I had this problem earlier in the game. Now I'm on master, I wish it was harder difficulty. I can tell you to go a enchanted shied, ring or necklace but I'm not. What I'm going to say is enjoy it even though it's frustrating. I can kill a dragon in the air on master in about 8 hits with the bow. If he lands he will not get back up. I'm actually starting to not use the best armor and I'm done with enchanting. Take hold of the challenge while it's there.

Don't stand in front of the big dragon with a dangerous breath weapon. I don't even do that and I am a sword and boarder.

if most people can easily kill an ancient dragon on master mode than there shouldn't be a problem, get a better weapon, use your smithing skills, add enchantments to weapons.

230 armor is bugger all and had no effect on Dragon breath attacks, as they are magic based and bypass armor. What you need is magical resistance or elemental resistance. You can craft an item with the required resistance or craft a potion of the required resistance or buy both from vendors. Hell killing an ice wraith gives you a 20% cold resistance potion every time.

I would also suggest going to Riften and doing the Agent of Mara questline for the magic resistance permanent bonus.

I laughed at this statement, I really did. Yet another person boasting about how "easy" Master is. LOL. My 50 pure warrior with maxed armor and a daedric 2h gets wrecked on master. It isnt easy.
Stop trying to sound cool. No one takes those comments seriously.

Uh you do realise that with 567 armor and 85% resistance to magic, and a greatsword with 400+ damage master is a walk over right? My Breton Deathknight has that and I litteratly can not die, my health bar almost never moves. So yeah for some people master is easy. Its why Ive stated using a mage with only 3 armor pieces, so that I have to use my defensive magics.

The dragon was easy - How did you kill Krosis? I has all sorts of problems with him, until I found a 40% fire resist helm and went up two levels!

Its really hard to understand how you're getting killed by a dragon if there is cover;
so either you're not using cover and trying to tank a dragon,
or you're not using cover properly.

Even shield bashing or using your fists to punch a dragon to death isn't very hard if you understand positioning. So you really have to explain how you are getting killed at all or everyone is going to assume you're just awful at this game.

Merely through single ingame items and sign stones you can remove all damage from dragon breath. You also have (as people have mentioned) the possibility of using your surroundings.

Just explore the map methodically, and you'll discover more possibilities for power than you'll ever need.

Enchanting is very important against dragons. VERY important. I play on master, played until level 25 with fur armor, and enchanting helped so much against those pesky mages and dragons.
