Havok settle changes bounding box

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 5:38 am

Hi guys,

I was hoping someone could tell me why the bounding box around my object (a book in this example) stays the same even once the Havok object has settled. Even though the book has fallen on its side, the bounding box still shows it as standing up. This means to select the object I need to click randomly in the air around the object to find it.

Is this normal or is it a bug?

Thanks for any assistance.

I haven't looked at this specifically, but I suspect it's somewhere between 'normal' and 'a bug'. In Fallout 3 (which had basically the same model/havok handling) it was possible for the object's mesh and havok physics to be partly separate from it's bounding box (on a lower node in the .nif, if you want to get technical :)). It was often easier to make and export the objects from the 3D package like this, but had the undesirable side effect you've seen.

So, not a 'bug' exactly, but not exactly a good feature either .

Could this also be related to the SetScale() function's inability to scale the bounding box to match the object's new size?
