300 hours of content according to Beth.

You can go over that, and radiant quests can go beyond that. Or you can make new characters and do it differently.

Or you can be like me and use mods that will extend the games life well over 300 to more like 600-1k pending on the amount of mods I have installed.

It's true, when you hit 300 hours on a character it will auto-delete all the saves and you will get a "the end" screen.

I think your friend is misinformed.

What do you mean by "the game quits" anyway?

The disc tells you to shove this lousy job and walks out of your house?

I've played for close to 80 hours right now and I'm going to tell you the places I have seen so far. Helgen obviously, Riverwood, Whiterun, Ivarstead and the Grey Beards. I have not yet delved into any of the guilds, just cleared a handful of of caves, mines and just recently the huge tomb in Ivarstead accompanied by Lydia. When I look at my map, I am cheering of what is still to be discovered. But, then again, I'm listening to all conversation, reading books, collecting raw materials, learning what Lydia is capable of and what is beyond, practicing my bow skills and so on.
It took me over a year to explore TES:IV on a single character until I felt I might have seen everything Cyrodiil has to offer... and I was wrong.

Enjoy the ride.

I expect to log about 400 hours. Then I'll see what mods are out there.

Perhaps he meant that the game quits indirectly? :)

I mean, there are so many broken things in this game, and the save file size just becomes bigger and bigger... in the end, for quite many people it seems, Skyrim becomes unplayable due to lag, crashes, and just all kinds of havok coming down into chaos. In short, the longer you play the worse it will get, if you're unlucky... so much worse that you won't be able to play at all.

I've played for 250 hours so far and I'm not close to the end of the main quest or of all of the content in the game. The 300 hours was a very modest estimate. Also, the game never ends. Even after you've done the main quest, you can keep playing and doing quests or make a new character and play again. Replayability is higher than high. The last TES was more than 5 years ago and it took 3 years to make Skyrim. It can be played for years too. Have a great time exploring.

Added: Like every game in existence, a minority of people are having problems playing on their systems but most people are playing just fine.

It is the holidays. You can't count on Gamestop's holiday help. Definitely not very picky about who they hire at this time of year. Most gamers know more about games and systems than these people do. They feed you a lot of bull because they don't actually know what they're talking about.

There is around three hundred hours of content in game.

For me I can extend this games life to thousands of hours because I roleplay.

I am at a hundred hours and I have not touched the main quest except to get my home in Whiterun.

I will not touch anymore of the main quest for a very long time, that is what The Elder Scrolls offers you, hundreds to thousands of hours of enjoyment.

I'm afraid I've played a little too much Skyrim the last weeks. I've lost pretty much all my motivation.
Maybe I will play some FO:NV until the CK is out.

Well lets use that theory of 300 hours of content. A formula I use is time/money for a return on inverstment. so 300 hours/$60 equals a ROI of 5. Lets compare that to say watching the whole lord of the rings series I am giving each installment 3 hours ( the might be a little low) for 9 hours of spent time. If you purchased them on DVD for $20 each that is $60 invested. So 9 hours/$60 equals a ROI of .15.

Regarding the 300 hours I am not seeing it I am at 240+ I have finished the main quest, the college and the companion quest lines. That still leaves me with thieves guild, dark brotherhood, and the two sides of the civil war to complete. Right now my favorite characters are a Argonion that just wanders around poking into here and there, then there is my confused cultist who lost his cult but is still trying to follow the tenants he grew up with.

I am projecting at least 500 hours on the Vanilla version.

The gamestop rep probably told him that when he hits 300 hours, an arrow takes out his characters knee. Last quest of the game: To become a guard.

Total content techically is infinite but I would estimate it to be around 225 hours before you start getting a little bit bored.

300 hours of content. But you will likely lose interest after 60 hours without mods... The game starts to feel very repetitive and imbalanced after level 30. a lot of content just feels like it repeats

I am at 309 counting all three characters, and I have just been hanging out here the last week or two and not playing much... Still have only gotten a little way into the two big quest lines.

At 60 hours I was at the second task in both Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood, and only discovered the Blades involvement... Nowhere near losing interest. Then again, I don't use fast travel, so it makes every adventure so much longer...

The game has as many game hours in it as you want to play.

If you just do the factions, guilds, and MQ you probably have a good 30+ hours.
