Heavy Armor Vs. Light Armour

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 8:06 am

Im making yet another new character, my last one was a stealthy assasin character (Nightingale armor FTW) Ive put all my perks in light armour, but then i saw the Deadric heavy armor outfit, i wanted it so bad, but i felt like it was pointless because i didn't spend a single perk in heavy armour yet, so my question is. Is it a good idea to spend perks i both heavy and light armour or stick to one of them?

Thanks

Hey MisterTimo! I think it all depends on your other skills you want to upgrade and how much time you want to spend. Heavy makes sneaking harder but the armor is so much nicer to look at. I would say its beter to choose 1 and get all its perks and then level up the other 1. OR get the best of both worlds.

By end game armor type becomes an aesthetics choice more than anything. There are some minor differences due to perks but both types can reach the armor rating cap.

Light Armor bonuses that Heavy doesn't have..
50% Stamina regen
10% chance to dodge

Heavy Armor bonuses that Light doesn't have..
Bonus unarmed attack damage
50% less stagger
10% chance to reflect damage
Half fall damage

Heavy Armor has the better bonuses but Light Armor is naturally better for sneaking although by end game you can sneak in Daedric quite easily.

Specializing in both will obviously drain perks away that could have been spent elsewhere had you just stayed with one of them. Most perks only come into use if you are wearing all Light/Heavy so you won't be able to utilize both skills very well together.

hmm i usually stick to one type of armour depends what race i choose for example orc = heavy and wood elf = light it also depends on ur skills like if u have high pickpocket, sneak, marksman etc. go for the light. If u got good block and lots of health and stamina go for heavy. It is all your opinion anyways so pick what u think is best for you i kinda stuffed up my first character cuz i wanted to test out all the skills and hes lvl 36 now and gets owned by everything cuz his skills are so unequally levelled. So yeah pick wat u want hope that helped:) .

I'm tempted to roll heavy even though my character should ideally be using light, simply because the Ebony mail daedric artifact is pure awesomesauce.

Then again, I think I'll just roll in light and then just use the console to swap my skills and perks over if I change my mind. I already did that to allow my character to switch from pathetic one handed swords to two handed swords.

Is it possible to level up in both heavy and light armor? I mean my situation with my character now is I started out wanting to concentrate in heavy armor but I started the thieves guild quests and wanted to go a more stealthy approach so I started using light armor with sneak. But I'm thinking on down the road after the thieves guild I may want to go back into heavy armor. So I guess I'm asking is it hurting my character's progress if I use both or can I do that? I'm thinking like I can max out in both. It is just the perks is where I need to be careful?
