Help, I'm addicted to archery!

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 8:23 am

I love the archery in Skyrim and use it to complement my play no matter what build but I love being a mage too. Right now I'm doing a warrior build and I have to force myself to take perks for that and use my mace and shield. I think archery and magic are both weapons to use at range so when fighting up close, it has to be mace or sword or axe or the like. One thing I like is increasing my block because I can power bash and then strike with the mace...so I'm learning how to do it and it's kind of fun even though the fighting isn't my favorite thing. Running up behind the dragon while Lydia is distracting it from the front is working too. Try those kinds of things, maybe? :) :tes:

I'm just getting into archery now, so far I've played a S+B Paladin, a dual-wield Nightblade, and a 2H Barbarian.

Just got started yesterday as a Bosmer Ranger/Arcane Archer, it's been pretty awesome so far though dealing with rushing melee heavy hitters is still pretty tough for me at this point. Should I get some One-Handed perks to deal with 'em, just wait for better archery perks, or is there some better tactic to use?

Out of interest, what was this highly challenging archery build of yours? And would you be kind enough to share some of the other character types you've used with archery? I'm beginning to run out of inspiration for my own characters, and I've always found archery isn't very difficult or challenging (and therefore not very satisfying) as soon as you get the slow time perk.

EDIT: Also, what race is best for archery?

It's the guy in my sig. Uses a long bow, iron arrows, hide armor, and doesn't take OP perks like ranger or quick shot. Lots of fun with sprint kiting.

Slow poisons. Useful even at very low alchemy levels, easy to stockpile if you grab every deathbell in the marshes surrounding morthal and look in barrels for salt piles.

op, have you tried archery in 3rd person yet? I'm pretty good at 3rd-person archery in Oblivion, but still need a lot of practice for Skyrim. I haven't made a primarily archer-based Sky character yet, but I eventually will.

A pure thief, as in no combat except maybe for animals.

Your leveling will become insanely slow if you don't kill anyone, won't it?

My favorite is the ShadowMage, strike close and silently, turn enemies against each other, then clean up the mess with your blade and destruction. I'll summon in tough fights as well as calm my opponents to reboot my magicka. Great fun.

This, I go the illusion route...except I use archery to "help" the carnage and mayhem along.

OP: One shotting draugrs as they're getting out of bed with my bow will never get old.

all I know about Archery thus far is that I"m quite enjoying my first character in Skyrim who just happens to be an archer, and I love the detail shown to the arrows. I sneak-shotted a necromancer sitting down at a table inside of a dungeon last night, it was literally through their neck, and came out their forehead! AWESOME!

I don't know about you but illusion is hands down my favorite school of magic.
