Hey Chewy -m its ok to feel dumb here - just make anote of these how to play.
Do the challenges to open up the weapons and mods in the game first. You can solo the first and second levels fairly easily and it will teach you a thing or two about movement, speed and shooting from the hip or on the fly. Sliding is also - as in ducking and weaving are useful skills if you want to live longer and the challenge area has a timer to teach you to be fast and also relatively accurate.
Secondly - there are 2 modes of online - one is a calmer and less frenetic co-op mode which you can invite friends to help you or just go public and join a group. If you are a hardened shooter and fairly skilled you can up teh mayhem to Versus mode which is you and a chice of who's who at your level against similar but it has friendly fire and is set at the hardest level if you encounter AI's. They can be difficult to stop at any distance.
When you start to gain levels - you will open up mre guns and modding content. If you are starting out fresh - you should play the co-op mode to develop teamplay aspects of warfare. Use you skill mods as much as possible and always use the ' up ' Dpad to sheck your objectives during the game. You can change to another class to get an objective done quicker, but sometime it doesnt pay off because ti may unbalance the group. Dont be put off by this. The game is full of risk taking and if you are scared of getting killed, you should become an operative or maybe a medic, but the later has to take huge risks to revive fallen soldiers etc. The engineer is well - usefull for mid-range attacks. They are not frontline offensive unless you have modded skills to secure flac-jacket and extended supplies. Engi's are support material and they are usually escorted along with a medic to get to objectives fast.
The real essence of BRINK is a coordinated effort within a team to complete the job efficiently and this requires joint effort. Its almost mandatory to have a headset so you can talk to your teamates or abuse them for not sticking to the job. You will learn over time whether you are in a good group or not when playing public. Basically, if you notice that group spiltting off too thinly during the progress of the game, you will be a one man army an a sitting duck for snipers. I'm one of those, who go after the fray and clean up the mice. Its easy to become distracted by your objectives as a class, but the team as a whole should know the objectives before entering the map and there is presence about how the group should work. There are no leaders as such in the game because each class has their own job to maintain the group.
You will be working against the clock in most situations - top right corner of HUD. Its not too important to watch the clock, but if you feel that the battle is getting bogged down in a firefight and you are not gettign closer to the objective, you should talk to your teamates ingame to get them thinking about a different strategey of approach to the objective. Straffing or going around can sometime seem too easy, because the oposing team ahasnt thought through the weaknesses in their gameplay. Dont think that this game is won through killing the oposition.
