Help me build the perfect RP non-sneak archer.

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 1:38 am

My Bosmer thief / assassin is level 37 now. I've been RPing him properly, but the overpowered sneak + archery combo is really beginning to svck the fun out of the character. It's easy mode and repetitive. So I'm thinking of finishing up the dark brotherhood and main quests, and starting a new, non-sneaking archer.

Archery is fun, but when you do nothing but fire your bow for dozens of levels, it starts to feel repetitive. So I want my new archer to have some magic capabilities, but I don't want a robe-wearing arcane archer. I want a hunter-type character, wearing furs which he magically enhances. But isn't an 'arcane hunter' a bit incongruous? I can't think of any magic school that would fit that type of character, except maybe restoration, and enchanting definitely doesn't fit. Maybe this can be solved through RP, such as creating a character that used to be an arcane archer and became a wanderer? Perhaps an imperial arcane archer that became disenchanted with his race and traveled to Skyrim to learn about its people and the rebellion?

Meh. Need halp!

You are well aware that both skills are to be leveled together, right? Sneak and Archery pretty much complete one another.

Are you going to rely on companions OP?

Conjuration would definitely fit a character like that, imo. Perhaps your character could be some sort of hermit shaman, who hunts more out of necessity than anything else.

No, no companions, as they are dumb as hell and break immersion. Maybe a dog, but he'd probably die constantly.

hello...

if your not gonna use the sneak and would like to use magic.. i would suggest putting a tank in front of you. a bow with ice atronochs would be pretty cool. and not so difficult to manage.

the illusion thing makes it to tempting to vanish at a whim. go full bore, never sneak, and put some ice in front of you!

:)

ps.. i have an archer that runs this and its pretty fun. later on with dremora lords and your skippy.

cheers

:o rp factor mmm young inmature but noble hunter with great power his father was a wood elf and his mother a high elf giving him fantastic ability with the bow and magic.

when in combat he masters the bow with great accuracy and controls there enemies with fear and fury, if the encounter is to hard he will call upon the help of their friends in the oblivion plain (fikealox idea :P) conjuring great familiars

he is friendly also likes to use his magic on towns from time to time to play pranks :P

pd if u get a follower ill go with caster or archer (femele) ;D!

Or you'd kill it just to quell that relentless barking.

I'm going to be blunt here. Letting the companions just follow is 100% of why people think they are terrible. I use(d) them as bait, to activate traps, and most important a Mule.

In the end, companions are only as good as the people who know how to properly use them. If you do not command them...well. you'll figure it out.

It's good to see you want to make a non sneak or OP'd archer, but this game has no hitboxes, so when you can shoot someone in the foot and kill them, it's kinda meh.

learn conjuration. use muffle. use calm. use fear. you will be guzzling down pots. better get that armor up quick. magic resist as well.

I'd prolly just roll a tank. ;D

/edit
When I want to have some fun with my archer, I strip my op'd gear, go stock and play master.
nothing like a stock long-bow, fur armor and some glass arrows, along with the right poison(s).

A shaman! Of course! Why didn't I think of that ? It's the perfect fit between magic user and man of the wilds. Conjuring elementals, using storm shouts, flinging arrows enchanted with elemental damage, wearing tribal-looking armor... perfect!

Thank you! Will definitely make him a nord.

In my opinion long term all magical skills are great. Trust me when i tell you that there are so many ways to proceed in a combat situation you probably wouldent believe me. Cojuration to me is alot stronger then destruction, i picked both(cuz im a pure pure mage) and Cojuration just beats destruction. If your gonna where robes you are gonna need alteration and either alchemy or restoration.illusion to me is the strongest magic school, mind control is beast nuff said.

Conjuration, use summons to distract and keep enemies off you while you shoot them. Bound Bow is also a solid choice for weapon, better than the other bound weapons considerably and comes with arrows.

Not using sneak attacks on an archer is kind of pointless though, it's good even with no points in sneak.
