Here are my specs, I know I dont have an optical drive on here but I have one picked out.

Case: COOLER MASTER HAF 922
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM
Monitor: Acer G245HBbd Black 24" Full HD WideScreen LCD Monitor
Gpu:
Psu: Thermaltake TR2 600W ATX 12V v2.2
Ram: Patriot Viper Xtreme Series Division 2 Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3
Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 PRO (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel P67
Cpu: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz
OS:: Windows 7
Cpu Cooler: XIGMATEK LOKI 92mm HYPRO Bearing CPU Cooler

What I want to know is if the Xigmatek cooler is even necessary, I've heard a lot of things about the Cooler Masters fans.

You seem to be missing a GPU.

Case fans are no replacement for a good CPU cooler. If you plan on overclocking that processor (which I assume, seeing you got the k model), then I suggest getting a CPU cooler.

Other than that, it looks good to me.

Move from the P8P67 Pro to the P8Z68-V. Even though there is a P8Z68-V Pro, the regular Z68-V is the replacement for the P67 Pro, and they are the same price. P67 has been entirely replaced by Z68, there's no point in buying it. The RAM is way overpriced for 4GB, and wont provide any better performance over much cheaper DDR3. I'd skip the 6970 for a 1GB 6950 or a 570. The 6950 would be a lot cheaper for very little performance decrease.

As for the cooler, SOME CPU cooler is necessary, but your CPU will come with a stock cooler. So the one you have picked out isn't necessary, but there's nothing really wrong with it.

That RAM has a $20 rebate on Newegg, I think he plans to take advantage of that. If not, then I'd go with G.SKILL RAM.
