help me decorate my house

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 4:36 am

My first TES game and I have to say I have enjoyed it a ton. I seem to enjoy creating little projects for my self and the newest one I have come up with is decorating my new house in Markarth. I was reading and saw a some posts and vids online that gave me some ideas for things i want to do but it seems this game is so deep there are probably some things I am not aware of that I might like so if you can think of something that might fit in please let me know. Here is my list so far:

Gems pile of them on a table or somewhere in the house

saw a vid of a house where someone had found a cool looking dewermere-sp? cog that had a red glow, looking to grab a couple of those to throw on some shelves

the bugs in the jars

obviously weapons and gear for plaques and manaquins

some extra soul gems lying around on shelves

is there anything else you guys can think of that looks unique and will stand out on a shelf somewhere or sitting in a corner. I'm on the xbox so console commands are out so be aware of that. Thanks for the input

If you're planning on just dropping items and then positioning them, they won't stay where you want them. :(

How so? if I put some things on shelves they will disappear eventually?

When you leave a house and go back in, it reloads everything, so you'll find your "free placed items" just thrown around.

It will leave items on your plaques, that's about it. Even the mannequins tend to leave copies of what you put on them laying around... so.

With the PC version you can position things precisely with the console and they will not reset when you reload the area. It's a bit tedious, though. If anyone's interested and can't figure it out I might be persuaded to write up an explanation. ;)

Yeah, somehow they figured that we loved the fact that we couldn't decorate in Oblivion, either.
And ummmm, somehow spears & crossbows weren't cool enough...

If you place the objects, then go outside and come back in you'll find them all on the floor. But if you place them again sometimes they stay put. I've noticed certain items will stay put and certain items will move or disappear no matter how many times you place them.

They sure have made it hard to place items in this game. I've enjoyed decorating my houses in Morrowind, Oblivion, and both Fallout games. But it's much harder in this game. Not only is there the bug everyone's mentioned but it's harder to place items as you want them, and when you place things on plates the plate jumps around and bumps the objects off.

Bottles are about the only things that I can bother doing now, including potions. I drop them on the floor near where I want them, go out and come in then position them. Then go out and come in again to see what's moved.

It's a real headache and a BIG disappointment with the game.

I have been frustrated by not being able to locate items in the precise area I leave them.
Love decorating. I would spend hours in the CS making the perfect house just so everything was left for my character to be able to go in and do what she needed.
Hopefully the CK will allow me to do the same because I really dislike coming home to things just piled up on the floor. :yuck:

Not exactly true

It appear it s the physics messing things up

some of my book pile are still standing. 2-3 books works well, but don t place piles too close to each other
maybe 3 per shelf in a non interactive bookshelf (3 piles of 3, so 9 books)

make sure whatever you put on a shelf is much smaller than the shelf (no bigger than a book)

I never got the statue of dibella to stay put

mushrooms are hell

potions recipes are verry easy

dont place anything on top of chests

anyway, its fairly complicated

abother thing: no running in the house, or its impossible to place things correctly and risk displacing stuff

Except on Dwemer machinery. They still get crossbows for left forearms.....

With the console, you can place things without the headache of having them "explode" or fall onto the floor when you reload your save or re-enter the building, but it's VERY time-consuming if you're picky about placement.

Basically, you drop the item you want to place. Then open the console and click on it (it helps to be in first-person camera for this). The object ID should show in the center of the screen, if it starts with ff you probably clicked the right object. If not, you probably clicked the floor.

Then you need to get its current position, using the getpos command: "getpos z" gives you its distance above the ground, "getpos x" and "getpos y" give you horizontal position.

First you probably want to set the item upright. You do this by doing "setangle x 0" then "setangle y 0" and "setangle z 0". The object won't re-orient until you move it, though, so don't worry if you don't see anything yet. (if you want to turn the object to face a different way, you can play with the angles... for example, if you want your Dibella statue to face a different direction use "setangle z 90"--or whatever number gives you the result you want)

Next you actually move the object, using setpos command to move it around. Like, if earlier when you typed "getpos z" it said the object's Z position was 15, and you want to move it up, you type "setpos z 25" and it will move up to 25. Same goes for x and y for moving it around horizontally.

Another useful command for doing this is tfc. This stands for Toggle Flying Camera, and it lets you move the camera around wherever you want instead of just where your character is looking.

Stee_vo pm'd me and told me to drop an item on the floor and then exit the house. Then go back in and move the object where you want it without putting it back in your inventory. So far its worked for me. I have placed a bunch of gems in the bowl by the front door, put soul gems in bowls and on shelves and leaned weapons up against the walls and corners. The only problem I had was with the gems. I had one that I dropped while moving it to a bowl. I placed it in the bowl after picking it up again and noticed when I came back in the gems would be rearranged in the bowl. I had to pick them up drop them then leave the house and start over. So far things have been staying in place

Ive completely given up even trying to decorate my homes. And I got really creeped out earlier when I went to my Riften home and went down to my basemant to find that the default mannequins had actually moved off their stands by a good couple of feet. Got to the bottom of the steps and there in the corner of my eye was the mannequin, Scared the beejeezus out of me!

A stubborn statue of Dibella is the reason I went looking for console commands... After spending about an hour doing the standard method of drop, leave, come back, reposition. Stupid thing landed on the floor (in the exact same spot/position, even) every time until I forced it with the console.

I piled about 200 skulls in the firepit at my house in whiterun, they looked pretty cool all glowy/flamey.. They seem to stay put but it kills the load time every time I enter. Now they're all outside in the street. I got lots of "what are you doing?!?" comments from the neighbors.
