Help me find a new Character type.

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 12:47 pm

Hey guys, i pretty much completed the major quest lines on my main character, and i actually want to restart a new character type. Could you guys give me some suggestions, because i have no idea what type of play style would be fun to play on, or just tell me what type of Character you play. Thanks guys would appreciate some input.

Do a Pure Mage, no swords or shield or armour, only using spells and wearing cloaks, by the time your level 10 your unstoppable.

I am a Bosmer archer, that recently picked up dagger use. I seriously played this as an FPS, with bow in hand, until I got to level 34 or so. I drank potions, and eventually started using a dagger and healing as a combo to recover health, but used my bow 99% of the time. It got really hectic at early levels with multiple opponents and a weak bow that took 8 to 10 shots to kill a Draugr. By the time I got to the mid-30s, I could strafe run and hit moving targets,

Even if you just play this way for a while, I think you'll find your archery skills improved. Not the in-game ones, but your ability to place shots and lead targets.

I'm actually considering playing as a Breton necromancer pure mage.

Primary: Illusion, Conjuration

Secondary: Alteration, Destruction, Restoration

Altmer > Breton for that. Race + Atronach birth-sign gives you 200 magicka at level 1  plus Bretons are too nice to be necromancers, they're for races I don't particularly like. :P

You should try out hybrid of archer/mage. This is what I'm trying to do for my 2nd play through.
Skills could be something like...

Primary skills: Archery, conjuration
Secondary: Sneak, illusion, alchemy

I'm trying a Breton enchanter using some of the ideas on the "artificer" thread. The build requires 14 perks total, 2 in Conjuration for a flame atronach back up, 2 in Destruction for augmented fire and 10 in Enchanting. You can operate as a pure mage for the first 18 or so levels and then switch partially to enchanted damage weapons. No weapon perks or training, no smithing or armor, just pure magic damage using weapons as if they were staves (and a few staves if you find good ones). I'm at level 19 now and just starting to make cost reduction and damage enchants...looking good so far.

I'm not sure (haven't played a mage yet), but I think it's gonna be difficult in the beginning because you won't have enough magicka and possibly not high enough skill. But I'm sure later on it's not too bad.

Any master conjurer out there wish to clarify this?

Conjuration is very easy to level if you don't mind spamming a certain spell on dead bodies, otherwise it's about average.

Conjuration is actually VERY easy to level....though I played as a sort of hybrid of a necromancer/spellsword. Using bound weapons(I prefer bound sword) levels up Conjuration rapidly as not only the summoning of the weapon gives you conjuration experience but hitting enemies with them does as well.(And you get experience toward the weapon skill too) I would then raise anything I killed and led it into battle against it's former allies. I should probably also mention, I dual wielded bound swords, and kept the bound sword spell and whatever my most powerful ressurection spell was set as favorites so I could switch between them at will and found my skill levels went up really rapidly doing this.(Since bound sword is a novice level spell it costs very little, and the magicka costs become manageable pretty quickly)

I had expert level conjuration by about the time i character hit around level 23(It was far and away my most used skill). Without any of the boring standing around spamming people do. Conjuration seems to gains experience not just on summoning(while in battle) but also when summons do damage. Bound weapons are much more powerful than I thought they would be.

The only real downsides are you can't enchant bound weapons....and the AI for the raised dead seems.........questionable at best....depending on what you've ressurected. Anything that carries a weapon is most problematic as they usually drop their weapons when they die and so only fight barehanded when reanimated....Sometimes they re-equip their weapon sometimes they don't....and the usual gripes with AI finiding paths in dungeons and following you around.
