HELP! Skyrim Murder Sequence will not initiate... No Windhel

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 12:55 am

So I read somewhere you must visit Windhelm from another hold at least 4 times, definitely done that every which way possible... I have gone there @ night, 12 - 6, during the day, ran all the way from other cities... Still don't get it. I am level 63, if that gives you an idea. Any ideas anyone?

It's not set in stone that it triggers on the 4th visit, it seems random, I've got it on the first visit.

I believe if you enter Hjerm it will trigger the quest.

In my case ... pickpocketing the key fromTova Shatter- Shield and going into the house (Hjerim) triggered this quest. Try it and see how it goes. As far as I know that's the only workaround for this quest ( for Xbox 360). Good luck! Let us know if this works for you ;)

Or you can just pick the lock and enter, or if you are in a position to buy the house and want to buy it anyway just do that and when you enter for the first time the murder quest will be initiated.

Since you are at level 63 you've been playing this PC for a while, is it possible you finished out the CW quests on the Imperial side? I did that with my last character and had only visited Windhelm once, twice at most, before I went there to help the Legion take the city. I never even went into the cemetery on previous visits because I was there on "offical business" and didn't consider myself a welcome visitor, so hanging about the city for side stuff didn't seem appropriate. Once I took the city for the Empire I went back wanting to do the murder quest but the victim was never there. But when I talked to the new Jarl I got the option to buy the house so I did and had to go in it myself and the quest then started from the point where you investigate the house.

If you go the route of buying the house in order to get in to start the murder quest, don't buy any furnishings (if Jorleif offers them) until after you get the murder quest out of the way. I'm pretty sure they've fixed some stuff to do with Hjerim and that quest in the patches, so it may not even be possible to furnish it until the murder quest is done, but just in case... better safe than sorry.
