3D help!

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 4:37 pm

Right, so basically I'm looking to try to find a 3D monitor which can play my PC, 360, and PS3 3D games (assuming they support 3D) on it. The thing is, there isn't an answer to that question ANYWHERE that I can find.

The monitor I've been looking at is the AW2310, but I'm pretty sure it would only work with PC games.

Can anyone help me? Failing that, I have a budget of around $600-$700.

Thanks!

Why are you sure that it would only work with PC games? The AW2310 uses HDMI/DVI input, so you can hook that up to your PS3/360 no problem, unless I'm missing something.

The way that 3D displays work, as far as I can tell. It's the same reason most 3DTVs have glasses that need recharging, they sync with the image or something or other.

It's all very confusing to me at this point, but basically I want to be able to play my games which support 3D in 3D. :P

my 2 cents: skip the 3d. there aren't enough games out there that take advantage of it yet. the price premium is not worth it imho. i say you'd be better off using those monies for a better GPU or perhaps a guitar... :D

The monitor doesn't know if the image that goes into it is from a PC or not, all it does is display what it's told to. As long as you hook up a device that has the kind of 3D the monitor seems to be designed for it should be fine. Not that I know anything about 3D monitors, but I don't see why they would be much different.

I would advise to just skip the 3D altogether. It's not worth it, in my opinion. There aren't a lot of things that use it, and I doubt that there really will be. It's mostly just a gimmick that has lived on well past its prime. I'm pretty sure that exposure to 3D like that can cause you eyestrain far quicker then a normal, "2D", image would. But then, I don't really know all that much about 3D other then knowing that it makes my head hurt. That, and it's uncomfortable to wear two pairs of glasses at once.

Didn't ask if I should go with 3D or not, did I? :P

Anyway, I already have a GTX580, so no need to upgrade anytime soon. ;)

And I no longer play guitar, and I'm actually trying to sell mine to help pay for this monitor. :shifty:

But yeah, I did some reading. Turns out the monitor needs to have the IR transmitter for the glasses built in and be compatible with HDMI 1.4 to achieve 3D with the PS3, 360 etc. Turns out that ViewSonic is making one which should be out in a few weeks that http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2011/09/viewsonic-makes-3d-easy-with-new-console-friendly-monitor-1.ars?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss seems to like.
