Okay I have seen this guy everywhere but I can't talk to him.
And other members have mentioned him. What is the point to him!

He was designed by the game designers as an easter egg to tell the players what they left out in the games. Essentially, he is a source of bad info. :) Just essentially info on what used to be in the game and now isn't.

He's an easter egg that's been in the games since Morrowind.

He was in other Elder Scrolls games, well.. his descendants who all share the same name. He makes witty comments regarding certain features of the game whether they were left out or changed. http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/M%27aiq_the_Liar

I wish, but he states that (in skyrim) his father, and his fathers father shared the same name.

"It does not matter to M'aiq how strong or smart one is. It only matters what one can do."

He does more than say stuff about what's "missing", he also comments on new (or even returning) features, the situation in the game (including lore tidbits), and continuing debates on the forums... like fast travel. There's also a couple of somewhat bawdy comments (either that or i have a dirty mind).

Some more words of wisdom:

"What does this mean, to combine magic? Magic plus magic is still magic."

"M'aiq is very practical. He has no need for Mysticism."

"Nords' armour has lots of fur. This sometimes makes M'aiq nervous."

"Something strange happens to Khajiit when they arrive in Skyrim."

"Why do soldiers bother with target practice? One learns best by hitting real people."

Ran into him twice so far and he gives three or so remarks before he's done talking. Once out in the wilderness near a hunter's camp and another time just outside Windhelm. So judging from other user's posts, he travels a lot.

Ma'iq the Lair is a Developer's way of commenting on certain issues that crop up on the forums during the development of the game.

In Morrowind, he stood still on an Island in the NE section of the Original gameland. And everything but two were out-right lies (hence the name). My favourite was (paraphrased): "You have to go up really high to see dragons, because the ones near the ground are invisible."

In Oblivion, he changed. He never out-right lied, but was just one heavily opinionated cat. He also hunted for Calipers. Difficult to find (Athletics and/or speed of 80 at the start), but waiting at either Anvil North Gate, or Leyawiin West Gate would get him to show, eventually. "Perhaps Ma'iq saw a dragon."

In Skyrim, he's similar to Oblivion, except that he only tells you 3 things before saying he's tired, and go pester someone else. He roams the land, and can be found anywhere. He wears a brown/tan-colored outfit and hood. My favourite quote: "Ma'iq hunts calipers always, but never finds any. Where could they have all gone?"

I saw M'aiq twice so far. The words he speak are pure gold and words in which one should live their life by. :goodjob:

In the Skrim strategy guide they list the most known locations where to find M'aiq and all of his sayings. He has alot but one of my favorites are in my signature. Oblivion literally had calipers every where and I remember threads would always pop up on this forum from people asking what calipers are for and how to use them.
