Help with BAIN

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 12:51 pm

I can't get the BAIN Installers Tab to work. When I click on the "Open..." option in the right click drop-down menu it takes me to the Bash Installers folder where all my mods are on my HDD, but they don't show up in the Installers tab of Wrye Bash. Any help?

I'm using the latest SVN if that changes anything.

'Open...' will open folder 'Bash Installers', you can customize your own Bash Installers path in bash.ini(not bash_default.ini)
that is to edit the following settings
Spoiler
sOblivionMods
sInstallersData
sBashModData

Or you can just put your BAINs where they are supposed to go (note the Bash installers folder is in Skyrim Mods, not Skyrim)..

and Wrye Smash will show them in your Installers Tab

I tried that fix, it didn't work, did I change the wrong values in the bash.ini file?

Well perhaps what is not in the right place is not the mods but the installers.dat file.

Does its location match what you have on your ini?

I posted about some wrangling of these ini entries http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1084204-bain-mod-installation-projects/page__view__findpost__p__15798007.

[edit] as an example of something I wish bash did natively is to have the installers.dat and bashmoddata.dat files local to the game install (in the MOPY folder). This way I can leave all the bloated amount of mod archives on yet another hard drive and don't have to burden my already bloated steam folder with gigs of mods).

My ini for that:
[General]
;--sOblivionMods is the Alternate root directory for installers, etc.

; It is strongly recommended that you do NOT put it anywhere under the
; game install directory itself, because Oblivion.exe will search through
; every directory under the install directory.
; This "directory thrashing" can then cause performance problems during gameplay.
; sOblivionMods is defined specifically to circumvent this bug by storing files elsewhere.
sOblivionMods=H:\BAIN Archives\Skyrim Mods

;--sInstallersData is the directory containing data about which installers
; are installed by Wrye Bash. This is where 'Installers.dat' and 'Converters.dat'
; are stored. Only change this for advanced configuration, such as when using
; mTES4 Manager or MOM to manage multiple Oblivion installs. In those cases,
; it is recommended to set this to a subdirectory of either "My Games/Oblivion"
; or "Oblivion/Mopy", so mTES4 Manager/MOM will move these files when changing
; clones/images.
sInstallersData=http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1372611-help-with-bain/G:/Steam/SteamApps/common/Skyrim/Mopy/BAIN

;--sBashModData is the directory containing data about your mods, ini edits, etc.
; Only change this for advanced configuration, such as when using mTES4 Manager
; or MOM to manage multiple Oblivion installs. In those cases, it is recommended
; to set this to a subdirectory of either "My Games/Oblivion" or "Oblivion/Mopy",
; so mTES4 Manager/MOM will move these files when changing clones/images.
sBashModData=http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1372611-help-with-bain/G:/Steam/SteamApps/common/Skyrim/Mopy/BAIN
But with the ini you can set it to however you like. I like it so that the BAIN archive is just mod archives and the game folder is where to find the info on what is read from that folder. Makes more sense to my brain.

I don't have an installers.dat file. It would be in the \Bash Installers\Bash right?

Idk why Wrye didn't create one for me when I installed it, how would I go about forcing to to make one in the right place?

Yep thats where it should be

Do you have Installers enabled http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/downloads/images/35230-1-1317081231.png

Edit: Should be showing the new options really http://www.bild.me/bild.php?file=3546540Capture3.JPG

I vaguely recall at one point with an early bash for skyrim having an issue with it doing that too.

What I did was back up the bash.ini I made and let bash generate the installers folder and then find the installers.dat and bashmoddata.dat and move them to where I want then change the ini (or copy back what I had). So it seemed from my foggy memory that settings didn't take right away from an altered bash.ini and had to be coaxed.

But I wasn't sure that I hadn't messed something up.

Perhaps it is a bug - but I doubt it if you were trying to create a generic location from bash and not alter the bash.ini.

Were you able to determine if it was a bug or just a miss step?

If a bug then if repeatable should be reported to bash team.

This really should be discussed in the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1369968-rel-wrye-bash/ thread shouldn't it?

It is almost as if you read the post right before you made this one.
