If you're new to the game and still low level, there's only one valid tactic for frost trolls: run like hell.

use a follower as distraction and take them out with a bow or spells that allow you to keep a distance

What makes them a pain is their health re-gen ability. So Fire works wonders at helping curb that tactic. But I am with Gram... if you spot one early on, run. Run fast.

Run away. Or abuse pathing by jumping on and off things and having them constantly walk back and forth. Or get an OP follower. Or use fire. OR RUN AWAY.

Run past them if you cannot afford to backtrack, and hope your follower teleports before (s)he's killed.

Yep, they burn easy ... but as the other forum-goers have said it is equally effective just to run away if you're a lower level character on high difficulty setting.

trolls are unique becuz they actually FOLLOW u even if u ran. i ran from a troll from ivarstead all the way to whiterun. AND the troll followed, but the guards took care of it at honningbrew meadery.

on uesp and wikia, it states that trolls can even open doors. WOW

Well at least Frost Troll you can run from. A Snow Sabre Cat however makes you suddenly remember why our ancestors climbed trees.

Spoiler tags are easy. Just do this:

[spoilers]Put spoiler text in here.[/spoilers]

Except where I wrote "spoilers", put "spoiler" singular instead, no S at the end, and you get this:

Spoiler
Like this.

If you take
Spoiler
Canis Root and Swamp Fungal pod
to an alchemy station you can make a potion which helps with hard opponents. Put it on a good blade and use it sparingly and it can give you an edge long enough to win or a real good head start in running away.

Yeah, running is a good option. Usually, the best option. Theres a book that helped me a lot that you will run into in the game that talks about the tactics of fighting frost trolls. If you are slightly leveled up, you can take them on. You will need a good one handed weapon, the best armor you can find and a good shield. Having rings and amulets that boost your blocking are great too. A fire spell does help stop them from regenerating health, but you want to cast it, switch to the shield, then start swinging on them. Beware their power swings, they will devistate you, especially at low levels. Keep health potions on hand. Block any of their power swings (you will get the timing as you go up against a few of them) and swing as much as possilbe. The biggest thing about killing a frost troll is to kill them fast or run.

I know I flame them when I do this but I always have the bad luck of getting stuck in the most stupid places, and I can't get out of the area because of the damn troll T_T... Also I just get [censored] in general by them...

FUS-RO-DAH AND RUN-LIKE-HELL

on higher levels you should take them on easily, but still, low level versus a frost troll is embarassing

Oh good Lord. At level seven you don't even wanna think about taking on a frost troll, much less do it.

Just move on and do other things. If you're heading up the mountain and you really want to get there and not wait, leave your follower behind and just run past the troll.

If your in a jam turn down difficulty and rrrrruuuuuunnnn like h#ll, you never want to face one at a low level. Use the jumping on rocks trick,it tends to slow em down.
