Help with landscaping.....

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 6:06 am

Ive been attempting to create a player house mod recently. I run into troublrs while trying to landscape a new landing pad for my house. The problem Im having is.... When I try to retexture the surface, it just turns out black, or a single square will render correctly but the rest wont.

It appears that way in-game too. Not just in the CK.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there anyway to get it to render properly?

I've encountered this problem too. Not exactly sure what causes it, it appears to have something to do with the cells. I don't know REALLY how to fix it, but typically where one texture comes out as black, another texture will work properly. So, Unfortunately the only advice I can give you is to use different textures over the black area until you get one that will paint. Somebody else may know a true solution.

Thank you for your reply..... I have tried multiple textures, but it just makes something else black, and something else textured. Its really quite frustrating! I end up with a multi-colored land mass that half black! :swear:

Yea... It's happened to me too. I try to minimize black, and then cover it up with statics. There has to be something that someone else knows that I don't. Hopefully they'll post here so we can both learn.

If its like the CS then you can only have a certain number of textures in an area of a cell. Pick the main texture and repaint a wide area with it, this will clear out everything except one texture. Then add some more. There was a shortcut key in the CS so you could delete a texture in an area but I havent tried it in the CK, so this is a guess.

You are only allowed 6 landscape textures per cell. So if you are editting a vanilla cell it would be best to stick to the textures all ready used instead of repainting the entire area. To see what textures are used, go to the cell you want to edit in the render window and open up the landscape editting box, from there click back on the render window and press "i", this will open up a little window listing all the landscape textures used in the relevant cells quads (quarters). So stick to these 6 when landscape painting and you should be good :).

Thats the on "i" key in landscape editor. Again if its the same as the CS then it will show percent of coverage. If you want to replace one with another you have to delete it in that particular area.
