Help me with playing Skyrim again

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 10:26 am

Hey maybe you guys can help me, I did all the quests so many times and seen the caves/dungeons so many times, I need something else. I need something else to do then quests or exploring, I was thinking of hunting animals but there aren't many different animals and you don't get rewarded for it. Maybe I sound a little stupid, but I just need something else to do, to love Skyrim again!

Thanks for the idea but I don't know how to roleplay. I've tried out some mods but they don't make me play as much as before again

Try the other caves/dungeons, look for secrets, find artifacts, kill giants, steal everything...

Roleplaying couldn't be easier. Basically, you specialise. If you're playing a mage, don't use weapons or maybe just dual daggers for close range. If you're playing an archer, bows are your primary weapon, and switch to either sword and board or dual weild 1h weapons. These are just examples, btw. Give your character a backstory. How did they come to be in Skyrim? Why do they stay? What are they going to do while they're there? Where will they base themselves out of?

On my second playthrough, I played through Helgen as a formality. In his story, he avoided arrest and was in Riverwood by the time Alduin attacked. Once Hadvar (I chose Imperials) got to Riverwood, I chose that as the start of my characters story. He alerted the Jarl of Whiterun then immediately made his way to Solitude to join the Imperials, which is why he came to Skyrim. During his time with them, he developed Gigantasophiba after being chased by a giant from Dawnstar to Whiterun, so now he avoids them at all costs, even though he longs to hunt the Mammoths. Hunting is his hobby and he is also a blacksmith on the side (no grinding)

I hope that helps

Roleplaying is easy: just create a character as you'd like to be if you were in Skyrim. And put limitations on him, not just to be ajack-of-all-trades, morals, etc... Just put a little of imagination on it.

Ah, and get help of the mods to make him realize it. Just don't install a mod because it's "cool", but because it fits your char.

But, sorry for the question, are roleplaying too nerd, too addictive, too much impact on your social life? I hope u get what i mean, how to avoid these? I think roleplaying is too reclusive....

I've come back to playing Skyrim after a little while off and Dead Is Dead games are a brilliant way to keep the games vibrant.

Also, keep your signature updated with the level of your DID characters (I haven't updated mine since early yesterday, but I've seen other DID players updating it through Steam everytime they level up!).

It only affects your social life if you let it affect your social life, regardless of if you roleplay or not. It's simply a more restricted way of playing that quite a bit of people find more enjoyable. I had a Kajiit that ONLY went around buying/selling things. Not the most exciting character, but it was definitely a new approach to the game. I'm currently roleplaying a hunter/explorer whose main focus is exploring/clearing EVERY dungeon/cave she comes across. She only loots gold, jewelry and books for income. I'm having a blast doing it. I never fast travel, I rarely use the carriages, and doing that really seems to make the game more immersive, imo.

Wait for dlc. That's what I'm doing. There are no more mods that I want and I have done literally everything. Maybe play a different game for a while. That's what I'm doing.

Addictive? Yeah, it can be but that's not a bad thing.
Too much impact? As has already been said, only if you let it. But then any hobby can impact social life if you let it.
Nerdy? Probably, but who cares

Roleplaying is not as hard as it seems. You just have to develop a character profile. Personality, Background/History, Motivations, stuff like that. View my About Me page if you want to see a detailed character sample; just don't copy my character verbatim please.

Know that there isn't a right way or wrong way to role-play, just be yourself and pick a role to follow for your character, I guess you can see it as you are controlling someone elses destiny.

Roleplay is why I liked Fallout New Vegas, because it forces you to do it somewhat. What you do and don't do for roleplay is up to you. All I really do is when I'm in cities I walk, I always rent a room or rest when it's night outside until morning, and "stay in character". It's kinda weird, because my character I intend on completing all questlines with, so I've been an amoral assassin who has turned to the aedra and certain daedra to fight against the forces of evil to reform. It helps that my character build matches the class skills of a witchhunter from older TES games.

Something else that helps me is to "enjoy the little things". Walk, don't run. Don't fast travel, so you can see the world and have random encounters. Watch for little details, like salmon swimming upstream. Stuff like that.

I say if you are starting over, put your perks into something different than you usually do. You will find the game hard, say if not using perks or not putting them into 1handeded or 2 handed weapons, and armour so you will not be dealing as much damage. Maybe when you level up don't put too many points into health. Then play Dead is Dead. You will find the game not so easy now.

Try a completely different build to what you're used to. For me, most of the fun in this game comes from the combat, which is why I'm dying for new skills in the DLC so I can make more interesting builds.
