I keep hearing talk of corruption in Riften with Maven blackfriar leading it, I've no interest in joining the thieves guild in this play through, so I'm asking is there a way to take down Maven and her chronies?, I've asked every character in Riften to see if I can get any sort of quest that might lead to the downfall of the blackfriars but so far nothing, any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

no I don't believe you can unfortunately.

from a rp point of view, her power comes from her connections with:

• the imperial empire
  
• the thalmor
  
• the thieves guild
  
• the dark brotherhood

So you could essentially nullify all of those by:

• Completing the stormcloak civil war questline and booting out the imperials
  
• The stormcloak questline AND kill off all the thalmor in the embassy and northwatch keep
  
• Spoiler

  just ignore the thieves guild as their luck will expire anyway
• and chose to kill the dark brotherhood

I believe the only Black-Briars you can kill are Sibbi and Ingun...but you wouldn't want to kill Ingun.

Thanks for the response folks, I was not really looking to kill any of them, I was more hoping to uncover the curruption and return the information to the jarl, I just thought there might be a quest line for this, I just want to see Maven in a jail cell.

I'm hoping for something in an expansion.

Not to be off topic here, but the Stormcloaks winning the civil war is exactly what the Thalmor want. They want Ulfric to weaken the Empire's grasp on Skyrim/Tamriel. In fact, there's a ledger that can be found in the Thalomr Embassy that clearly states that Ulfric is nothing more than a catalyst for the Empires defeat and the Aldmeri Dominion's victory. So by helping Ulfric and his rebellion, you're actually helping the Thalmor tighten their already strong grip on Tamriel.

Back on topic. I don't believe there's any real way to bring Maven down. The best you could do is follow what Ben42 said. Also, If you side with the Imperials, Maven will become Jarl of Riften. If you really want to screw her, then that's the way to go.

Actually they don't want either side to win, but would rather them just fight on and bleed strenght away. They see victory by the Stormcloaks as freeing up manpower of the Empire fighing forces and Victory by the Empire as gaining more troops from the Nords. So either victory would in the end strenghten the Empire in one way or another that is why the book said they didn't want to give too much aid to Ulfric so he couldn't win either.
