Hey, What if the speech of Skyrim was changed to Shakespeare

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:03 am

My loving Lords and ladies,

I do present to thee a plan of great renown.

Please look not upon it with a frown.

If yonder game of Skyrim were spake in glorious Medieval lines

As such is want of of olden times,

Would it not extend great joy

To make use of such a ploy?

Please stoop and set your knee to such a wondrous plan,

And deny this not to a Man.

It'd be more iambic pentameter and generally in sonnets, and more likely to be spoken by the Bards.

We would have to have footnotes for every dialogue to define the archaic words and phrases of Elizabethan England.

It must replace basic race selection with, "Whence dost thou hail?".

If fain thou wilt pursue the tempest wild
and stormy for, in haste, to snowy climes
as tides betray our seasoned vaunt of life--
go, then. Forth, secure the depth and height
of mountains fram'd like swords posed at the sky.

I, 'spite love for fellows such as thee,
will chance the road elsewhere, or chance taking arrow to knee.
(Exeunt.)

My thoughts are twirled like a Potter`s wheel;
More word we could spread with a little zeal?

Though popular belief may run contrary,
The speech of Shakespeare, both now and e'en then
Was risen 'bove the speech of street-bound folk.

For wouldn't you consider it a curse
If you were bound to always speak in verse?

But if thou dost desire speech in this relation,
Prithee remember this and you shall thrive:
The verse should be iambic- or variation-
And feet per line should always number five.

Not if it rhymed. I'd probably sue Bethesda if the dialogue rhymed like that.

Rub-a-dub-dub,
Three pigs in a tub,
And how do you think they got there?

The butcher, the baker,
The candlestick-maker,
They all jumped out of a rotten tomato,

Not if it rhymed. I'd probably sue Bethesda if the dialogue rhymed like that.

A well-versed actor speaking on the stage,
Excepting rules of six, or race, or age,
Will often give their lines with pace and timing
That renders natural any sense of forced rhyming.

(Can't figure out how to accent a letter on the forums, so imagine that the last "forced" is given an accent over the "e".)

Lyricism, and verse, and beauty and prose,
Would complement Skyrim like water to a rose.
That said, confine it to the College of Bards,
To prevent complaints of understanding being hard.

Kindly excuse the misuse of rhyme multiple times;
I only seek fun with puns whether lewd or crude.
Anyhow, for now I'll end my friends,
For fear you're appalled with my attempts at being a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skald.

Spoiler
Forgive me and my lack of use of iambic pentameter or the sonnet structure; I've never been one for poetry, being much more partial for prose myself. If you ever want a short story, I'll be there
