Hidden dragon in Blackreach.

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 4:13 pm

Title and description for reference, if no one seems to know about it I can post a guide on how to find it.

Just curious, the dragon has a uniqe name and is in a very odd place, yet it seems to have no significance.

Hmm. I didn't really look around Blackreach very much. I'll have to explore it sometime. I saw some big bright sphere-thing and wanted to get up to where it was, but I couldn't really find a path and gave up after a couple of minutes, mostly because I ran into a giant and I was low level and almost got one shot by it.

Vulthuryol: A dragon encountered underground in Blackreach, underneath Alftand. To trigger this dragon attack the player must use the Unrelenting Force shout on the massive orange globe hanging from the roof of Blackreach.

Ive been to Blackreach several times and never encountered a dragon, perhaps it was a random encounter. Ive ran into named dragons randomly in skyrim.

Edit: Nevermind, thats interesting, how strong is it? Compared to the Dragon, Frost, Blood, Elder, Ancient scale... is there a dragon stronger than Ancient?

Is him challenging?Or is he easy as any other named dragon?
First time I met Alduin resurrecting a dragon I prepared myself for a tough fight...but he was easier than a Blood Dragon...

have him attend a dragon combine?

This may not be obvious, but not everyone on here can jump on the appropriate console/computer and play this, not to mention its not a short trek to black reach(going through altfond first)

So I was curious if the fight would be even worth the time spent to make an extra trip.

if you've been there already (main quest) you can fast travel and use the quick elevator entrance.

from wiki: "These lifts can only be accessed from Blackreach, however once you open the lift it becomes a new access point for Blackreach that is located on your map."

my game is glitched then, because I have taken the elevator twice out of black reach (once for the original quest, once to go back and get the lexicon) however there is not a blackreach marker on my map, and the elevator gate was closed and locked when I go back.

As you can see, I'm kind of new here, my apologies. >.>

Edit: As for how strong it is, it seems about as strong as a Blood Dragon.

If my memory serves me correct, theres one right on side as you enter blackreach from Altfond, and one in the tower where the Elder scroll is.

I have used both of those elevators before, but now that I think about it, I really only left the area from the elevator in the tower, when I used the elevator in blackreach, I just went straight back down realizing it wasnt the direction I intended on going.

This is actually true, I just tried it. That. Is. Awesome! :tes:

Oh, I think it scales to your level. I'm level 47 and it wasn't as weak as a Blood Dragon

I believe he's an Ancient Dragon regardless of your level. I'm not sure of his purpose, he doesn't appear to be mentioned anywhere or have any relevance. Probably just an easter egg.

I thought it was interesting. But I don't think there's any story significance or anything. I just think it was meant as a surprise encounter that can really only be discovered by accident by people who don't already know what to do...

Well he's probably meant to be related to the artificial sun. Perhaps the Dwemer found him buried and built the Sun around him as a source for its power. Or perhaps he was sleeping near it because it was a warm cozy place to sleep - like how cats or iguanas will nap in front of fireplaces. If it was the source of power for the artificial sun, then I imagine the only reason the artificial sun doesnt' go out when you trigger him and then kill him is that it would ruin the incredibly cool look of the place just a bit.

I just fought this dragon @ lvl 45.
The 3d model is the same of the "Ancient Dragon", but he's not powerful as one of them. Not even powerful as a Elder, maybe a frosty.
He has a ton of hp, but I could easily survive his breath...and usually I can't survive an Elder Dragon breath.
Anyway he's the most powerful of the named dragons, thats for sure.

Another interesting surprise from such a unique dungeon.

Another... I managed to lure a Dwarven centurion over... rather entertaining, at least for a while. They seemed to forget about little 'ole me, at least until the bucket of bolts was turned into a pile of molten metal...

I hit it and heard him but something bugged out so I forgot about him. I left that section and was walking along and get hit square in the face by a breath attack his sneaky ass was hiding outside in the dark lol.

I've done it twice, both times he just landed on the road outside the structure and sat there. When I get there with another character I am going to try to kill as little as possible before spawning him, rather than killing everything first.

Dragon fights lost the luster quickly, Dragons that just sit there and stare at you while you kill them is even worse.
