High Magicka Regen Rate vs High Magicka Pool

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 1:10 am

Just wanted to know how they size up against eachother as I have just finished the College of Winterhold questline.

Also, I would like to know if Magicka Regen stacks (I.E. Morokei + Archmage's Robes)

Mostly it's because I was thinking of going with the Atronach standing stone and I'd like to know what the best setup is for a mage with light armor perks? Not a battlemage.

I haven't gotten high enough level on my mage to understand the pros and cons of magicka pool vs regen, but I do know that regen I find is what I was drawn to first at low level. In the long run, perk points are going to reduce this cost and most likely at a brisk pace so investing heavily into magicka is maybe good for lower levels but higher up I personally don't see the point.

Yes Regen as far as I am aware stacks, you can see it under active effects menu.

And so you are thinking of a mage using light armor but no melee weapons? I was going to delve into this on my conjurer since I use no melee on her but found the joy of bound bow, and I just stay robes for looks now. I can't find the urge to perk anything in light armor.

Magicka regeneration is based on your maximum magicka.
This means the higher your maximum is, the faster you regenerate magicka/second, even though it will always take the same amount of time to completely fill up.

Good regeneration options besides enchanting:
  • 3 points in Restoration gives you +50% regeneration.
  • Elsweyr Fondue is a cooked meal that gives you +100 magicka and +25% regeneration for 12 minutes.
  • Apprentice stone gives you +100% regeneration.

with regards to enchanting , fortify magicka will almost always a better choice than magicka regeneration and fortify stacked to 100% will be even better.

This, I can sit and hold the lightning storm master spell all day long and not have to worry about magic cost, it cost me only 4 magic a second WITHOUT the master level destruction perk.

Just fortifying your magicka fortifies your regen on a per-point basis, since it's percentage based. If it takes 10 seconds to fill your magicka bar from empty, then you get more per second if you have 200 than if you have 190. Still takes 10 seconds to fill the bar, but you have that 190 magicka a little faster since the bar goes to 200 now.

If you're going Antronach definetly bigger Starting pool. At least that's my preference.

I kept taking Magicka each time I leveled up and thought it was doing pretty good but using it and having it come back slowly just wasn't doing it for me. Once I got the Adept robes with 100% regen, it was doing a lot better. It just "felt" better, you know? I'll be building up both magicka and magicka regen in the coming levels. :tes:
