Highest settings are ticking my card off?!

Post » Tue Mar 08, 2011 10:29 pm

Forgive me if this isn't the place to write this, maybe should be on the Nvidia site? But I was wondering if anyone else has a similar experience or cure.
Got a new system with a Nvidia G Force 250GTX card. 1.8 GB. Runs fine on the high settings but if I put it on Ultra and the highest resolution the card starts making a ticking sound! Quit the game and it gradually goes away as the fan dies down?
Dodgy card?
Cheers.

Unbalanced fan, maybe?

Or metal expansion as the heat sink heats up?

Sounds like something to ask either the system builder or nVidia about.

Yeah, deffo an expansion problem. I can tweek the fan case a bit and it stops the noise. The game is starting to stutter when I move now as well, guess its starting to heat up a bit too much in there.
Shame, the graphics are very impressive.

Ooop's no. My mistake.
Nvidia Geforce GTX 260 1.8GB (1792mb) Special Edition Graphics Card

NV auto sets to high quality video but 800x600 res??! Still bloody noisy whatever I play it at. And its running at 63 degrees even on low res. Going to see what the rig builder has to say about it, getting on my nerves now!

yea i have the same thing with mine. Low load on one or all GPUs. Its nice that the temps are low. Have you tried setting the NVCP to force size and quality or do you have it controlled by the application?

What drivers are you using? It sound as if its a driver issue. Did you try to do a clean install with the new drivers? nVidia just recently added an option to do a "clean install" with their installer package, if i remebmer correctly its in the bottom left corner, but you could always use something like driver sweeper.

Yeah, I altered the setting s in the NVCP. No difference. Just dosen't get quite as loud on 800x600, but whats the point in having a decent card to play on that res?
Have left a post on the Nvidia forum, waiting to see what that brings. Also told the builder about it, will take the card out and try to get the cover off to have a look inside if they are cool with that. The drivers are the latest 260 release so I don't think its to do with that.
