I respectfully disagree. Please go to the Lore forums for a detailed explanation.

Bethesda should make Lord of the Rings games and quit TES. That would be perfect, because all LotR games right now svck, and LotR > TES.

That way you could have hobbits and dwarves and I could be happy.

i hear ya but there's no reason they just couldn't incorporate hobbits and dwarves into TES games, it would be like an all-star cast

For the love of Talos, please tell me you are trolling.
If not, let me make this clear. This is Elderscrolls, not Lord of the rings. Two good things, each in there own right. Lord of the rings is more traditional fantasy. Dwarves live underground, and use warhammers in LOTR.
Dwarves in TES make Steampunk robots, uncover gods hearts, and then get blasted out of existence for trying to make a Megatron, then making the Megatron a God.
TES has no Hobbits.
And will not.
Ever.
I hope.

There are also AK-47s, space terrorists, and treasure hunters in other games. TES doesn't need to be the exact same as other games, there are reasons that the dwarves are dead and it's (vaguely) explained, and there have never to our knowledge been hobbits in these games.

Only a LOTR game will have hobbits.
D&D used to have hobbits but had to change them to halflings because of copyright.

Why are the dwemer even called dwarves?

Because their friends, the giants, thought they were pretty small.

wow! this post got way more buzz than expected, honestly didn't know hobbits(halflings) were only a LOTR race or didn't realized people thought like that. I've seen halflings in some other fantasy games. Wouldn't be a big deal anyway, if you didn't want to be either a dwarf or hobbit you just wouldn't pick one, i think it'll improve an already awesome video game series if there was even more races in the world, haha i didn't mean to turn the whole fantasy world on its head...

Dwarves aren't extinct in TES.

They don't exist.

Dwemer were misnamed as Dwarves. They aren't dwarves at all.

So all our playable races qualify as dwarves?

Dwarf =/= Dwemer....... Dwarf from lotr is knee high, exceptionally less in intellect, and scores less badass than your all feared, laughed at Daedra, curbstomped races that came across them all around so powerful they had to be destroyed Dwemer of TES

So all our playable races qualify as dwarves?

sure why not, fact is the Giants called the Dwemer Dwarves because the Dwemer were smaller than the Giants, plain and simple. and not the Giants from skyrim, the Giants that were with the Dwemer I believe also went extinct.

Hobbits are in the realm of Tolkien and are most likely copyrighted. Dwarves don't exist in Elder Scrolls, not in the sense that they are little people we commonly see in folklore. The dwarves (Dwemer) in TES were actually elves who are the same height as humans, so essentially a cross between an Altmer and a Dunmer. Just play as one of those races and pretend you're a Dwemer because there's no physiological difference.

ahhh ok, so they didn't have traditional dwarven features and really weren't dwarves at all, as for hobbits, they could just name those little guys halflings.... anyway thanks for the informative reply.
