No "Holy" Groups?

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 11:55 pm

So in Oblivion, in the Knights of the Nine. You had this big order of people, who fought for the nine divines. Sort of a Holy Organization of Knights, or Crusaders.

Was anyone disappointing with the lack of a "good guy" group again?

Yup, I want to join the Psijic order or the Vigilant of Stendarr. I am disappointed that there are no lawful good versions of werewolf/vampire factions.

Can you actually join either of these groups and do any quests with them?

There is a series of quests from the priests of Mara in Riften, if I recall correctly.

There is nothing you can do to join or quest with the Vigilant of Stendarr.

And I don't consider the Companions to be lawful good. I don't consider lycanthropy to be inherently evil either. But I am looking for a self-righteous paladin type group, which I would think would be the Vigilant of Stendarr.

They're lawful, but...

Spoiler
After doing sidequests after becoming harbinger, You help Vilkas and Farkas become cured of Lycanthropy? And that Aela worships Hircine?

I cured myself as fast as I could. For RP reason's, my character now helps Lycanthropes instead of kill. As killing them would condemn them to the hunting grounds, and he once knew how powerful the urge to hunt for blood was aswell.

I think we should have actual holy factions in the base game. In Morrowind you could join the native dunmer Tribunal Temple, or the Imperial Cult (worshiped all the divines). Further back, Daggerfall had joinable temples and templar orders for each of the divines. I really miss this in Skyrim. There's no factions my healer and knightly character feels right joining...

I'd like to see the temples in Skyrim be joinable, like the temple of Kynareth in Whiterun, temple of Mara in Riften, temple of Talos in Windhelm, temple of Dibella in Markarth, etc. Or even just the Temple of the Divines in Solitude. That'd be cool...

Yeah the Vigilants of Stendarr are worthless....interestingly enough murdering all of them doesn't count as a crime :D

So let me get this straight.

You're upset that there's no equivalent in the vanilla version of the game that wasn't in the vanilla version of Skyrim?

Seriously.

There's quite a few from Mara to Stendarr to Talos. But I know exactly what you mean, they don't have as heavy an impact on the story as certain groups did in Oblivion and yes I miss that. It was a great morality balance story wise.

Edit: Because I've been drinking.

Yes, aren't too many guilds that are really suitable for a Paladin unfortunately. I did Mages Guild, MQ, and Imperial
Legion with my Imperial Paladin, still uncertain as to whether I should speed through the Conpanions or not
Spoiler
(having to be a werewolf is troubling, my Paladin wouldnt want to give his soul to Hircine even temporarily, though he may do so just to get the others cured with him)
Vigilants of Stendarr have no quests at the moment, though I'm guessing they might be involved in DLC.

You can do side quests for some of the Temples though, Mara's temple in Riften has a few, plus ones for the Temple of Dibella in Markarth and the Temple of Kynareth in Whiterun. Some miscellaneous quests to be done by talking to the Priests of Arkay in the various towns. (Off-topic, but the one in Whiterun actually references the priest's amulet of Arkay as being used as his holy symbol to "turn undead" in the Whiterun House of the Dead! Thought that was an interesting revision of lore to be closer to D&D clerics)

No dedicated holy faction as of yet, maybe through mods if not DLC.

i don't like that 3 of 4 guilds are not suited for a 'good' playthrough. DB out, TG out, and the companions are just hired muscle who happen to be werewolves. they support each other but that's the only honor i saw. half your quest is slaughtering a rival faction. the guilds are set up perfectly for a new vegas style pick a side questline. i would like nothing more than to join the silver hands and help mjoll wipe out the thieves guild.

Well, there is a Vigilant who needs a hand investigating an "abandoned" house in Markath. He could really use the help of a shiny paladin type, because it might be dangerous in there! :)

I'm not a goody two-shoes, so I'm not bothered by the lack of a holy faction. Skyrim is a harsh place; all of the good people are already dead.

Oh there's plenty of good people just not that many over 60% good factions this time sadly.

Haha, well I guess there's that one.

I wasn't considering that to be one of there's though. Starts out that way, then Molag Bal's has to hikack it.

I hope a dlc or community mod with a Viligant of Stendarr faction is made! Would make a fun questline hunting down daedra worshippers and killing vampires and werewolves with a few plot twists thrown in.

I enjoy the darker and evil factions myself but they shouldn't be the only available options. Only really "good thing" I did with my neutral character was spreading pamphlets in Riften from the Temple of Mara. Skyrim is pretty dark and overall a sad place. Some balance would be nice for those gamers that like playing the good guy/paladin type.

i like playing the good guy/hero
i like a game with good moral choices
there is none in this game
it seems they set this game up for only one type of player...

i liked being the 'hero' in oblivion

i do not play DB or the thiefs guild and chose not to bother with the companions as it too it tied into a darker side
and their story lines are not for me at least, very compelling..

skyrim is not a game i will replay as i did with oblivion..
simply not a game i like to play over again.. no reason fo me to
i do not like the side stories.. boring..and i like playing the hero/good guy.. not much for me in that regard

i like moral choices.. so i will wait for fallout 4 hopefully they do not disappoint with that one

Or it might be that the game is based in a gritty conflict zone where there is little black and white. What does a Paladin DO faced by this? - Does he whine how there is no apparent callings worthy of his righteousness. Does he leave and go back to someplace safer and happier where he can rescue kittens and service the church?

...or does he go out there and try make the best of it?

Thank God Bethesda gets that these kinds of games are a train wreck.

Thank God the dark age of Oblivion has passed.
