Home town?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 4:06 am

What is your favorite/ hometown in Skyrim? And why?

To answer for myself, it's Morthal. This is just because I was near it while training and next thing I know, I'm there all the time for food, potions, a break... and than quests. I became the Thane. I left after a while to the third city I visited, Solitude.

I became fond of the city, making it like a hometown to me.

Since I am doing blacksmithing, I use Whiterun - the house (Breezehome) is right next to the Blacksmith shop. When you sell things, there are two blacksmiths, an alchemist, you wife's shop, the bar across the street, and the town merchent - all real close to one another - so you dont have to move around alot and you can buy and sell LOTS of things. Blacksmiths have the most money in the game - so after each mission I could dump things in the barrel at the blacksmith shop - after a while return - grab all my blacksmith ingots from the other barrel - upgrade all the equipment and then sell it across the block - PLUS just outside the gate in Whiterun - the Traveling merchent would show up and give me even another spot to get / sell things. Whatever didnt sell - I could just store away in barrel #2

each day their BANK would reset - so I could come back and sell what didnt the next day.

Mine is Markarth. I have a house there, it's where I met my future wife (lol) and IMO, I love the look of it. Shame about the whole Forsworn Conspiracy thing though, but I can forgive it, haha.

Riften. It's the warm southern fishing town (my Argonian is a fisherman). You only have to open the backdoor in the Honeyside home, and there's the lake. And after a swim you can go to the Beer and Barb inn for a drink.

Solitude right now. I like the view and the storage. My porch has a crummy view, though. Might have to go check out Honeyside.

Windhelm! The most snowiest town in Skyrim, I love the snow, the weather, the racism.

But my second place has to be Whiterun.

I personally love Riverwood. Most temperate, sunny, and green looking region to me. Very picturesque.

Whiterun mostly. It seems like a small and cozy village.
And Breezehome is my favorite house, as it looks just like a normal, small house. Not like Proudspire or Vlindrel.

I'm actually kinda hoping any new DLC might add user Houses to Morthal, Dawnstar and Falkreath. Maybe even Winterhold. Each town has a certain charm, and it'd be great to have the option. Each has a Thane, so there's no reason you couldn't buy property from their Second just as you do with the other Holds.

My main campaign character very much set up home in Solitude. I love that city. Thing is that despite the Pricetag... Proudspire manner is actually pretty badly laid out. A lot of wasted space, and not a lot of storage.

No cupboards in the cellar to keep your alchemy ingredients in, no wardrobe upstairs. It's all a bit badly planned. Looks great though.

I am a solitude man myself. Love being by the coast, love Proudspire (especially when customised to hell with console commands) and I think it is the most imaginatively designed city, bar markarth. Also like the fact you can see a lot of the surrounding land from the city itself. Also like the fact it is out of the way

Riverwood feels like a second home to me; I'm friends with pretty much everyone except Sven. Whiterun is my main home (Breezehome), but Markarth is another city I adore. Doesn't feel like home, but I certainly enjoy it.

Riften, because of the high merchant density. There are 4 merchants, 1 blacksmith, 1 alchemist and a general goods store all located within a small area. If you have completed the Thieves Guild quests, you also get 1 fence, 1 alchemist, 1 blacksmith and 2 traders additionally. No other city in Skyrim has such facilities. Also, my wife lives there in Honeyside house. So that's one extra merchant, open 24x7.

The Riverwood region is my favorite. Second to that is the Riften Region.

I like the look and feel of Markarth and Solitude. I love the Vilindril(spelling?) Hall and Proudspire Manor.

I do wish we had an actual city with Winterhold I was really looking forward to that city.

I was at first most at home in my Breezehome in White Run.

That was until I took Aela the Huntress as me wife and made the house in Markarth as our marital home.

Now I tend to use Whiterun as my smithing quarters by putting all my smithing materials in the cupboard to the left just through the door (so even if you are encumbered you still only have a few steps to the door and a few more steps to the arms trader and forge next door).

I still love Whiterun as a central base though. I tend to just to pass through Markarth to check up on the wife, trade with her and collect my half the money she makes.

(my housecarl in Markarth is now a full member of the Blades, so he isn't hanging around the missus when I'm wandering Skyrim - Not that I'm the jealous type. I'm sure the shop story is just a front she uses for other money making activities. I mean, where's the shop?).

yh. If they do ever make a castle / tower type dlc along the lines of what they did for Oblivion (as some posters have asked for), I'd like them to place it in / next to Winterhold so it kinda makes it feel more of a place to visit other than just the mages guild. That way we can even get a carriage there from the other cities.

Used to be WIndhelm as it feels really harsh and Nordic, but Solitude is probably my favourite city now.

Its changed over the time. I tend to spending most of my time in Riften so I class this as my home town. I do love Whiterun too though just wish the house house was a bit bigger there or had and enchanting table and Id have probably stayed there.

Whiterun. I can't believe I scraqed together 25 grand at a low level to a buy a house I'm not even using anymore. I'm talking about the soltitude house, but I decided I didn't like living in a big house so I moved back to Breezehome, and I'm happy.

Whiterun for sure. Has all the merchant's I need and I really like the structure of it and lack of DB/TG presence as well and the companions are nice too. Jarl is really nice as well and Lydia rocks.
