Homefront and Brink

Post » Wed Aug 10, 2011 8:26 pm

Unlike a lot of Brink fans, I wasn't interested in Brink til the day before it came out. I was extremely excited for Homefront though. (I mean come on, who doesn't love Red Dawn?) A friend of mine bought Homefront the day it came out, and he let me play. Outside the beginning of the game, I was pretty dissapointed. The multiplayer seemed like a COD copy attempt and the campaign just wasn't that great. I'm sorry if I make Homefront sound bad, it is actually a decent game and the multiplayer has some neat ideas, but I was just dissappointed. On the other hand, I love Brink yet I wasn't excited for it at all. Could one reason for loving Brink be that I actually wasn't super excited for it? Maybe since I wasn't super pumped for it, I was able to not care about its faults and just have a good time with it. Any comments?

Certainly. If you go into a game with little to no expectations, it allows you to have clearer judgement and be more open. That is opposed to going in with high expectations, which are rarely met, then you come out disappointed on the other side. It is in our nature to compare new things to old, but if you learn to go into every game with an open mind, you will find yourself branching out alot more and enjoying more than just Call of Duty.

Yes what you both said. I have bought games with next to none expectations and ended up falling head of heels for them. Most of the ex fans of Brink that had huge expectations then when it came out they left the game to collect dust on the shelves because it was not what they expected.

brink is a great game. the reason it got so much hate is because people thought it had so much potential yet it didn't live up to the hype. However most games dont live up to there hype and so many people imagined what brink might be like by the trailers and demo's and created their own game by what they saw. In conclusion, most people who didn't watch trailers or demos 90% of the time will like it. i got about 8 of my friends to buy it and they all loved it. actually 3 out of the 8 said it was their favorite game. When you say brink didn't live up to its hype thats not true. it showed exact game play footage and when the real game came out it wasnt nearly as good as they excepted yet if they never watched gameplay/trailers they would love the concept of the game itself and not something they thought would be in the game.

I only brought this game becuase my brother talked it up, initialy I was pleased with the different style of game play, but the graphics on my 360 really let it down (same issue I had with Homefront). After seeing some screen shots from the PC and stumbling across an online store selling the PC version for £10, and snapped up a copy and can honestly say I'm loving it. I know the PC version was always going to be better looking, but its not just a bit but massively better.

also, lots of the brainless TDM fans thought it looked cool but dont like teamwork and cant effectively camp with a sniper rifle. im kinda glad a lot of the brainless ones didnt stick with it.

to many of the younger players just care about their k/d epeen waving stats. its why a lot of FPS games these days are poor compared to the older classics. the thing is they have sacrificed their own enjoyment for the sake of some irrelevant stats. sad really.

FPS used to just be about who was best in the game. then it was about good teamwork. now its about hiding in a tree with a sniper rifle
