Honest Hearts DLC trailer is now up! Thread #2

Post » Wed May 04, 2011 11:21 am

Is it just me or is this game just getting further and further away from 'post-apocalyptic'?
I know there have been many arguments on here about what post-apocalyptic really is but, I think they ruined the feel on the game with New Vegas and now they are dragging it further and further away from the game I loved.
Why not change the name of the game to angry tribe wars or something? It looks and feels nothing like a post-apocalyptic game.
Bring back the capitol wasteland!

Angry primitive tribes are one thing that pops in to my mind when I think about post-apocalyptic wastelands.

I concur, more tribals. Plus post apocalyptic western are two genres that really float my boat. I know where the FO3heads are coming from as I love it for the same reasons but I play FONV like it's a new experience. If you were your FO3 character and you headed out west you'd love the open space and for the first time sunshine, it would be a new adventure and you'd prob think thank Avo I left that dump behind.

Definately tribal, I've been waiting along time.:)

I was expecting the Burned Man to be Hated and and only care for revenge but meh.....will see where it leads.

Also judging by the size.....expansion?

Oh boy, I'm no I'm getting this the first day of release. And those headdresses and masks look great.

@Spunky Onion FO1, FO2 were all about the tribes, besides FO3 should have had more progress after 200 years.

The series and it's universe needs to move forward, not stagnate in FO3's mess.
It was post-apocalyptic, now it's post-post-apocalyptic, now it's becoming more civilized.
You don't like it? Then play S.T.AL.K.E.R or replay FO3, those have that typical cliché post-apoc setting.

(You really want to pui FO3 at the same position of S.T.A.L.K.E.R?)

Why is it that people on these forums assume that anyone who prefers Fallout 3 has NOT played the originals?
I don't think New Vegas is very much like the originals either, the closest it gets is using original games music and putting some letters in the same order - NCR. But does it really feel like the originals? No, not really. Bethesda bought the series, took it in a different direction (which I preffered) then Obsidian have tried to drag it back but, got stuck somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

And as for more progress after 200 years well, New Vegas was also lagging behind. There was so much working technology left after the war and surviving scientists, doctors, tradesmen, armed forces etc that they would have got alot further than 3 casinos and a not very well trained army by 200 years. They wouldn't just turn 'tribal' and dumb. So that argument holds no weight at all. It's just a made up story that gets less and less sensational the more 'New Vegas' the series gets and if that means I'm saying the originals don't have as good a setting and vibe (God forbid on these forums) then so be it.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy New Vegas and I'd be quite happy for the series to jump between capitol wasteland and New Vegas setting with each game but, if it was a choice of one it would be Capitol Wasteland everytime.

Why are Fallout 3 fans so hated and looked down upon on this forum?

I never said I hate them, just that saying that FO3 is more FO than the first 2 games doesn't make sense. This universe can't stay in a post apocalypse forever. Its societies are rebuilding and theres still plenty of backward tribes and poverty to go around.

THe setting was alright for FO3 but it is not what to me defines the style of the series.

Honestly, you're missing the point of New Vegas's unique narrative, unlike D.C., Las Vegas was never hit by the bombs, the people in D.C. got off lucky and died mostly, Vegas went through the worst form of Post-Apocalyptia, the decline of law and civil order. Imagine, after House's lasers blast the bombs out of the sky, and everything goes dark, then what? The Police can't contain riots of thousands of people, imagine the panic as people pressed to McCarran trying to find hope of flying to some kind of safety, looters, violence. The law was hard pressed for order, and to be honest, a scientist or teacher or a doctor, these types of proffesionals arent known for their skill in fisticuffs, they'd be the first to flee, die, or find a secure shelter. Freeside is a dump because that was Vegas when the bombs stopped and so did law and order. The Strip is in splendor because in 2277 House resurrected Vegas, but not after pushing those who refused to conform to a more civilized way. House is basically trying to wash off the stains of the War from Vegas, but alot of it can and will remain for a long time. New Vegas has made alot of progress, it's even got it's own walls to keep the unwanted out, more than D.C. ever had. Alot of the hardliners complaints are the same incessant, but valid, cries of 'IT'S BEEN 200 YEARS! Y U NO PROGRESS?', personally I just see the issue as D.C. got off to a bad start, with no one willing to make an initiave to change conditions, Lyons and his BoS chapter were on of the catalysts to it's late but ever so needed change, the James came along, then lastly, The Lone Wanderer.

I didn't say Fallout 3 is 'more Fallout' than the first two games.

Why can't they make new Fallout games not so far after the war for? That would be more interesting because the stage the series is at now it's more like a 1900's style war game with a re-skin and some out of place robots.

Am I the only person on the forums who misses world destruction?

I think there WOULD be some tribes scattered about but and I agree the poverty 'feel' is great but, why not be the post-apocalyptic game it sells itself as and not something that's starting to feel diluted and slighlty mis-leading?

I can agrewe with you here. I would like some prologue type stories or events a few years after the actual bombs. That would be interesting, some people have wanted a game where there a ssurvivor during the initial bombardment.

Wow.

In a thread about the upcoming DLC we have a FO3 vs NV argument (again. The Nth [censored] [censored] time) and arguments about what different people consider to be post-apoc.

Hooray.

Meanwhile, I'm curious to know a few things about the DLC (omg, did I just go ON-TOPIC? How dare I?): when we return after completing it, will we still be subject to the caravan weight restriction? And, after we deal with Graham, assuming Caesar is still amongst the living, will we be able to discuss him the next time we face Caesar? And, will we actually get a bible as gear? And, what kind of mods will we get for the awesome new weapons. Oh, that last one was a question, so just assume I used the correct punctuation.

We'd better be able to talk about a dead Caesar with Graham and about Graham with Caesar. It would make no sense if we didn't, I hope there will be a little bit of carry-over like there was with Dead Money and Veronica. And the caravan thing is good question, perhaps after completing the DLC whatever caravan company we worked with will be sending regular caravans through Zion to the surviving tribals.

Yeah, back on topic, this is a long-shot but, wouldn't it be good if they released Broken Steel type DLC where we get to see beyond the end of the game and maybe see or hear of the effects of all the other DLC's we've played so far?

I can't see it happening though as it would require the player to buy all DLC's.

I can dream though...

I doubt that'll ever happen. Too much work involved.

You guys do realize that this thread is about the Honest Hearts Trailer, NOT ABOUT FALLOUT 3. I'm honestly sick of reading all of these posts that say "FO3 svcks", "NV svcks", and "I wanna Broken Steel DLC for New Vegas!" Wah Wah, my god people, Can we at least stay on topic for once? Or is that Impossible?

So, hypothetical question assuming we can take Graham back with us: if we Kill Caesar, can we make Graham the leader of CL? Not necessarily kill him, as in siding with House or the NCR, just to replace him. Admittedly I don't know a whole lot about the back-story and lore of Fallout, I know that Graham used to be in CL, though. Caesar wasn't exactly happy with him, a trip to the Grand Canyon ensues. Would it even make sense for him to want to lead it? I don't want them to re-write the CL story with him in it, keep it basically the same. Just have people comment on it, y'know. "So, did you hear? Apparently the Burned Man over-threw Caesar. He's running it now, I wonder what he's gonna do about the NCR?"

I dunno, I think it'd be kind of neat. Maybe that's just me, though.

I don't know, I'd like Graham to have a large role in NV and maybe even in the main story, but I don't see him running back to the Legion. In my opinion Graham has outgrown the Legion and would rather support Yes Man or House over the Legion. Even if he would be made their leader.

It would be his perfect revenge. Caesar tried to kill him for his defeat by the NCR at the first battle of Hoover Dam, and he in return is victorious over the Legion during the second battle of Hoover Dam.

I think Graham has outgrown everything going on in the Mojave. Caesar's Legion. NCR. Everything.

He called his punishment a baptism ("... baptized... second time in fire...") which indicates to me (along with other things he said) that he has found a new purpose (in Zion). I wouldn't be at all surprised if he says something like: "Caesar did what he had to do, and I am thankful for it."

I don't expect to have him return to the Mojave. I expect that, if he lives at the end of HH, he will remain in Zion.
