Hi guys, just wondering if anyone could help me. Im trying to aquire this house in riften and I've started off by trying to win over the Jarls favour by doing the skooma quest, i've completed it and reported back to her but there is no option to ask about becoming a thane or a house, has anyone else had this problem or have the house? If so could you tell me how you went about getting it.

EDIT: She hasnt offered to make me thane yet as far as i know, there isnt an option help out her citizens, do i have to help them out and then go back to her?

just keep doing the side quests in riften. i'm not sure exactly how many you need to do, but once your local fame is high enough you will be given the option to buy the house.

You have to do 3 of the side quests for Riften. I made sure I got the waypoint for the town of Shor's Stone on the way to Cragslane Cavern (the skooma den), then I delivered the ore sample for the alchemist, helped Shadr get rid of his debt to Sapphire, and fetched Harrald's sword from Balimund for him. Those three quests only took about five minutes.

You may be trying to avoid spoilers, but you might be best checking UESP because the house is bugged (or was before 1.4) and you can't get the Title and/or reward unless you do things in proper order when you get close to earning it. I realize that previous sentence doesn't make much sense, but I'm trying to be vague.

The bug is that you immediately after you buy the house, you should talk to the Jarl and have her grant you the title of Thane. If you visit the house first before doing that, then you can experience problems.

It's also "Cheats" and "Hints". Some people come here to ask pointed questions because they just want a nudge and don't want to read several paragraphs on a wiki that lays out the entire quest/quest-line so I don't want to spoil too much for them.

That is a good point, I will try to remember that in the future. I frequently spoil myself on scripts / news for movies before they come out, but I need to remember that most people probably don't feel the same way.

It's why I ask stupid/simple questions here. I know I can find all the answers on wikis, but it's usu more than I want to know.

Ironically, sometimes I want to know how certain movies will end before I watch them because if it's going to be a tragic or infuriating ending I won't watch them.
