I hope Bethesda never includes amateurs in their products. They are a serious business with hundreds of millions budget games and their customers deserve more than momentary indulgences driven by schoolboy testosterone waves on the internet.
Nicely said :goodjob: I've heard this [censored] a few good times in the past and it's doesn't get any better in time. It's average. A voice I definitely wouldn't enjoy hearing in my Skyrim. I can bet if the original clip was posted on YouTube with a black screen there wouldn't be all this teenage horny hype omg alicia keys hire her now or else.

I'm no teenager myself. I'm 34. Unfortunately. I just don't like people knocking music for strange reasons. Like "reverb" causing change in quality to someone's voice. That makes no sense. I encourage anyone to learn an instrument. It's fun, easy to learn, but hard to master. But within a year's time, you'll be acquainted with enough of it and equipment involved to make informed criticism of other people's work. Until then, just simply say you don't like it. Instead of inventing [censored], and acting like you're an expert of audio engineering. There's nothing wrong with simply hating things. You don't need any excuse for it.

Well I am no pubascent teenager , actually I am probably a dirty old man (48), but she has a very good voice, reverb or no, and if she was singing at the open mic night in my local pub I would shut up and listen.. (even if I couldn't see her)

You know what?

I hope Bethesda includes THAT girl.
I don't give a [censored] if it's Power Rangers, put it in anyways. It'd be awesome.
Together with her music should they include a chariot drawn by 12 mammoths so that one can thunder across the plains around Whiterun.

While I thought the reverb was a bit too wet, I also understand why she did it. It's pretty standard fare for the music used in "fanatsy" tales to be awash in lush, floating, dreamy reverb. It's done for effect and it'd been done so much that by now, it's more or less considered obligatory.

As for "no talent" As korr said, it's fine to say you dislike something, but to justify your dislike by insulting it is sad. Even more so when your justification only serves to prove that you have no idea what you're talking about. Reverb isn't auto-tune. You can say you don't care for Mozart, or classical music in general, but to justify that opinion by saying he was a no talent, incompetent , wanna be composer that could barely play the Piano doesn't prove your point. It makes you look beyond ignorant ( i.e an idiot).

While not all musicians will agree that they like her song, all would agree that she actually can sing. Also, anyone that actually knows about studio effects would agree that reverb can't cover svck or lack of talent.

The answer is obvious:

(Decent Singing Voice + [censored] load of audio tuning) * (Girl + Attractive (if you are in that age group, guessing about 16-17) + Some kind of interest in video games) = Extreme popularity with the denizens of the internet.

Apparently not so obvious that you could manage to actually use the correct technical terms.
Audio Tuning is simply setting up your audio system for optimal performance. If she did that, good for her- why are you bashing her technical music production skills? Would you prefer to listen to poorly balanced static?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auto-Tune is for people who can't sing on key - but if you don't even know what its called, I don't see why you would think its being used! From what I could tell, its NOT - singing on key isn't all that hard, not when you can do multiple takes and have a freshly tuned guitar to keep you on track.

Definately, endorsed! First thing I said when I heard her covers.
It's a shame she didnt record the vocals and guitar seperately (And with less reverb) so it could really be modded well into the game.

She is not that good; she doesn't deserve a record deal or anything. This is just what happens when a bunch of sweaty nerds find a girl who likes video games: they go mental.

If people are gonna get picky, then I'm gonna join in. It's not echo shes using, It's called reverb, a lot of it. And yes there is a difference. It bugs me as an audio engineer when people describe something that's wrong. Reverb is a series of "echo's" used before a certain time (often 20-30 ms) after the sound. Actual echo is used at a higher ms after the inital sound and you can actually "hear" the spatial difference in the latter. Echo in today's audio world is aka Delay.

None of what I said will probably help anything.

I can tell you 100% that she does not use auto-tune. Auto-tune is for terrible rappers and people that want to take the "easy way out".

Why does everyone think she is the godess of all singing? Because she's not. She's alright. Alright. That's it.

Not on topic, but if it has to be some kid replaying a song on YouTube then you need to watch Lara play the Power Rangers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flRc7RPFt38

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEHsYziSuJs&feature=related Lara and Taylor playing the Morrowind and Skyrim themes. Posted this one a few weeks ago, but since we're talking covers again, why not. And yes, I've also seen a few posts featuring this woman. She's okay, but not great. I certainly wont bash her like some, though. Actually, as I'm typing this, I listened to Age of Aggression. Nowhere near as good as Dragonborn Comes. But I will agree, there is way too much echo effect.

Pretty sure they haven't invented auto-tune and reverb in Tamriel.

well if your here and your 34, some people here actually ARE experts and have degree's/diploma's in audio engineering.

She has a nice voice yea but I wouldn't mind hearing it without any affects, and Reverb does nothing to make you sing flatter , nor better its usually used as a backing to make vocals ( and sounds ) sound more full. All it really does to most people is just sound like things are being played in a hall.

Schoolboy testosterone? You've seen what she looks like, right? I'm almost shocked that so many think she's pretty.

You've got my vote.

(but 'professional' is basically anyone who gets paid for their work; and she could certainly get paid for her performances.)

Well said.

My mom thinks the singer's voice sounds nice, though she doesn't care for the song itself. It would have been good if Skyrim's bards sounded more musically-talented than they do, but I like them well enough.

My mom arrived at her judgement without having "a thing" for the singer's looks or "a thing" for the quality of the singer's fans. Commenting on the singer's looks and the fans' drives, even in a negative way, shows that one has "a thing" for those looks and those drives. In the negative comments of this thread, that thing, not the performance itself, shines forth as the reason that the performance is disliked.

This singer's voice is certainly not bad, though it may now be too well-recognized as a real-world thing. I want to think "Hey, I like this bard", not "Hey, it's her!"

They should get Eric Clapton to be a bard in a DLC

I don't like it because the reverb makes it sound silly. Not saying it isn't talented, I just don't like the effect
