Horse carriges from town to town

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 2:16 am

I love the fact that you have horse carriges that can take you from town to town.
But I think it's a bit sad that you don't get to see the actual journey. Sure, I understand that they've done it like this to save us time from getting from, for example, Riften to Solitude, but what about us that actually want to see the journey? It's a beautiful landscape in Skyrim, and you might even find places you'd like to visit later on. :)
How about just giving us the option to choose whether we want to watch the journey with the horse carriage or not? I know I would take great pleasure in that :)

Why not just walk then? I think carriages were meant to allow role-players the "guilty pleasure" of fast-raveling...sort of like with dieters and low-calorie ice-cream I guess.

I loved that about RDR. It was a nice time to grab a drink and such. I know I can just pause, but it was cool to look up from the kitchen and see the sights.

That would be nice. Anything is better than just a loading screen.

I do walk as often as I can, but yes, the fast-travelling is definitely a wonderful option if it's something you need asap. I would just like to have the option of chosing, as I probably wouldn't use the ability to watch the entire journey every single time. Just when I'm leaving for a new town and I haven't been that way earlier on :)

I have often wondered this, they did it in GTA IV you could watch the whole cab journey or skip it. I would have at least done it once just to see the scenery but would of got kind of boring after awhile.

Isn't it obvious, enemies spawn in where the player is. So you would get enemies attacking the horse and carriage and being indestructable you would end up with dozens of enemies by the time you got to your destination.

Yeah, it's nice to just have the option, but of course, even I would get bored with the exact same scenery on a journey I've taken god knows how many times. That why a skip-button would be of great use.

But if a patch was made so that you wouldn't be attacked while on the carriage that wouldn't be a problem. :)

Yeah, that would be a great option! To be able to actually defend the carriage and the driver while on the road would be a great alternative as well (as long as the enemies doesn't show up every 20 meters, I would like to get a peaceful ride occasionally).

They would probably have to re-do the entire game as it's designed so enemies appear where the player is. Although maybe they could add a autopilot to horses, you just tell the horse where you want to go and it goes there.

That's unrealistic. Isn't the whole point of role-playing to be as realistic as possible?

I was disappointed by this too. It's easy to have a skip option for people that truely want fast travel. I have to agree with all of the people who brought up Red Dead Redemption. The horse drawn carriages in that game were fantastic.

Yeah, that's true. Didn't think of that. Either way, as someone said, if one would be forced to dismount when an enemy approaches, it would become more realistic, as you have to defend yourself.

But then it would become annoying, because you couldn't do things like get off the path and investigate an interesting ruin or something. And if you COULD, then what's the point of the carriage? Just use a horse.

This was my thought as well. I don't see why they couldn't give you a "skip" option where the screen would fade to black and load you at your destination during the trip.

Edit: Someone already said this. :)

There's a mod that attempts to do just what the OP is asking for. But to get it to be a smooth ride is a different story; the carriage flails all over the place.

I for one would like to have to be able to see the sights on a carriage. It'd also be pretty cool if the chance of being attacked could be reduced or completely eliminated it'd be awesome.

Sure, annoying eventually, but how many times have you actually been attacked by bandits while on the road? The most likely ones are wolves, and occasionally a bear or sabre-cat, perhaps even an ice-wraith on a rare occasion, and I don't even think that would happen very often while on the carriage.

No, I'm saying the annoying thing would be that you couldn't explore. And if you COULD then there would be no point to the carriage.

I don't think you got the point. I just want to be able to take a horse carriage once in a while to enjoy the beauty of the landscape. If I want to explore (as I often do) there would be no need for me to take the carriage, because then I would want to stray off the road and search every little piece of land I can find. So as you say, in exploring the landscape there would be no need for a carriage. But for those who just want to take a nice ride and see the landscape, a journey on the horse carriage is a nice break from the looong walks from one town to another. :)
