92.59.57 hours and catastrophic fail

Post » Wed Feb 23, 2011 2:11 am

So I am 92.59.57 hours into the game, level 26, 19 achievements, patched at level 10, hardcoe mode, classic pack, and I have come into a catastrophic failure. Whenever enemies are in view the game freezes solid. Going back to previously saved games does not fix the issue. Coming into areas with enemies from different angles does not fix the issue. Fast travelling out of and back into areas does not fix the issue. The game is completely broken.

Up until now, the game was running fine. I only had maybe 3 or 4 freezes. The game did have extremely long load times: sometimes 1 to 2 minutes. And I did have some quest bugs, but nothing major: the ED-E quest did not have dialogue options at Gibson Scapeyard, the monorail at McCarren would run away if you didn't hug close to it and after diffusing the bomb the monorail still blew up. Also, there is a glitch where companions can hold infinite amounts of items. But other than that, everything ran just as it did in Fallout 3 (not perfect, but not bad either).

I started noticing the enemy view crash at Nelson. When I went down to the platform right below the main area of Nelson, it would freeze the moment I got close to the enemies near the platform. I encountered the total catastrophic failure when I went to investigate the sniper near Bitter Springs and came up on the Cazadors in the area you pass through to get to where the sniper marker is. Now whenever, wherever a single enemy or multiple enemies show up in view, the game completely freezes and requires a hard reboot. It runs fine as long as no enemies are in view. But the moment an enemy comes into view, it freezes solid.

I read the post about the "Temporary Work Around" and just to let you know, I have not been to the Strip yet, I saved frequently, and tried switching quests and going to other areas. While the "temp work around" info is good and helpful, it has no effect on that fact that this game just plain and simple does not work.

Very disappointed and kind of pissed off.

I know how you feel. We pay a lot of money for games that really should be of a good quality. It seems almost as if we have wasted our money. I just hope that the new patch will fix these problems so we can get on with completing more quests and can keep the cowboy hat away instead of wearing it every time we enter the strip. 92 hours is a lot of gaming time, so to experience glitches must be frustrating.

Thanks.

I called Gamestop to see if I could return it. They have not heard anything from the creators regarding the issues. So all they can do is exchange the game for another copy of New Vegas.

I urge everyone to call the store you bought your game from and complain about the game. If they have unhappy customers, they will question the creators about this game and what exactly is going on to fix it. Make them pressure the creators for a solution.

You don't mention whether you're running of the hard disk, but if you are why on earth do you think getting a new copy of the game is going to help you ???

Where do I say that a new copy will help me? Reading comprehension is lost. All I am saying is that is Gamespot's return policy at this point.

You've probably already cleared your cache, several times in fact. However, if you haven't then give it a shot as it will clear up a lot of freezing issues. It's not a guaranteed fix, but it might do the trick.

I'll try anything. I just looked up how to do this and will do it this in a little bit. Cross your fingers, please.

I'll try anything. But, I am not exactly sure what it means to clear the cache or how to do it. Is this what I would do?

Go to the Xbox Dashboard, select the System Blade, and select Memory.
Highlight the HD symbol and press Y.
Press X, X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, X.

there is also just a "Clear System Cache" after pressing Y with either the HD , or removable memory, highlighted

Thanks, that got me to the clear cache option. I was just about to post up that the xxleftrightxx did not work. So thanks for the info.

Clearing the cache had no effect. But I was able to figure out the trigger for the freeze. It was Boone. I had him as a companion and figured his attack sequence may have had something to do with the freeze ups. So I dropped him off at Novac and then went to go engage some enemies and the issue is gone. I will try a different companion to see if I still have issues.
