~7 hours lost

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:02 am

Topic.

Played pretty late last night, went to play today and my save games are the ones from before I patched the game... lost around 7 hours of gameplay (yes I was quick saving) I know about the autosave bug.

Is there a fix for this? I dont really want to play till this gets fixed.

there might be a .bak file, Make a backup of that immeditly. I didnt realize it , renamed it to .fov and loaded the game, steam cloud over wrote it so i had to do 3hrs of work again.

Explains how to restore it . Also until they fix this bug DONT USE auto/quick SAVES. Ive made manual saves since my mishap and have had 0 problems.

Apparently they do know about and are working to fix this.

Keep in mind, since Morrowind it's been suggested one never rely on auto/quick saves with the Gamebryo engine. Hard manual saves always. I simply disable auto save all together. I either use ESC>Save or ~ + (type)save "file_name_ here" (Note the underscores, they are a must. Spaces will not work. Ignore the "s, they are not needed.)

Either do manual saves and do the load option on the games main screen. Or run steam in offline mode that way you can use quick and autosaves

I'm glad they are working on the fix. I agree with you that quick saves can be problematic, but this seems like a Huge bug to have missed by QA. One has to wonder if the QA testers ever saved their progress, as they would have seen this the first time they did so just as we have. :shakehead: But no matter, I'm using manual saves now as well.

I have found the fastest way to save is via the console. Typing: Save "MySave11" does the trick. Once typed once, I can hit ~, hit up-arrow to recall the last command, increment the number or change the name and hit return, then ~. I can get the save process down to a few seconds this way, and I get to control the name of the save. So far these are 100% reliable.

I had several problems with autosaves back in Oblivion. I learned then to never rely on them, I always use manual saves anyway.

I heard from one guy that it might be a Steam Cloud issue. It uploads the newest auto and quick saves to teh steam server and then re-downloads them once you start up. It might be downloading the wrong ones.
My auto save is always several hours old everytime i boot up New Vegas, I'm just accepting it and when I stop playing I make sure I have about 3 manual saves at the exact same spot.
like I said, many bad memories from Oblivion of having to re-do hours of playtime due to auto save corruption or even crashing while I save over a manual save, so I got use to making multiple save slots for the same character.
