House vs. NCR

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 8:35 am

NCR is militarist, expansionist, but things under their rule would be better than the legion. They require others to sacrifice some personal freedom / land ownership, though they attempt to protect people under their rule to some degree when it's not inconvenient for them. There's some corruption, but they're overall a somewhat "good" group that's just trying police and control everything - which causes problems with groups that aren't necessarily "bad".

Mr. House's goal is progress, and while he doesn't have quite as noble sentiments as (some)NCR, will protect people for the sake of progress. He is humanities' best bet for progress in technology, his idealogy allows for much more freedom, and as a single entity he has no middle men screwing things up. Being what he is, he also has no motivations that would lead to any sort of corruption straying him from his goals - which are mutually beneficial to him and mankind.

My opinion, for long term improvement and stability, Mr. House > NCR.

Mr. House is as bad as corrupt. Life or death decisions are made on how it'll effect Vegas tourism. He was more than willing to let Benny, the Omertas, and the White Glove Society continue their schemes as long as it's less interrupting than sending in the Securibots, because Securibots will run off the gamblers.

Independent vendors are taxed half of what they make every single day. And Michael Angelo is basically a slave.

House only cares about one thing. House. If you get in his way of his plans, he will wipe you out without a second thought as shown by what happens to the Kings if he wins influence of the Mojave.

I went with House first, I liked that he was mostly straight with me. His motivations were pretty clear, and I like that he's not a leader so much as a businessman.

He isn't a great guy, no. He doesn't do things out of the goodness of his heart. But he is for the progression of technology, ultimately for everybody's benefit. The thing about him is he's willing to do whatever it takes to get there, and he's clear about it and okay with it.

That was what I thought at first after listening the Mr. House's speech on his plans for the future. But then I realize that there is a fatale flaw in his plans.

New Vegas' entire economy is dependent on trade and tourism with the NCR. Mr. House also admits this himself. And after the his Securitrons force the NCR out of the Mojave, I don't think the republic government will be too happy about it. All they need to do is to declare an official economic sanction and trade embargo against New Vegas. And since there is no one else that Mr. House can sell to (the Legion doesn't want technology and the smaller settlements doesn't have nearly as much money as the NCR), it is only a matter of time before the economy of New Vegas collapses entirely. There goes his plans about rebuilding the hi-tec industry.

For me, the best plan will be for NCR and Mr. House working together. New Vegas can become an 'Autonomous Region' under the rule of Mr. House and provided with NCR protection. In return the NCR can control the Hoover Dam and continue to move eastward. Sadly, this doesn't seem to be an optional ending. :sadvaultboy:

The NCR is just as corrupt (if not more) if you see the NCR ending.

I disagree... New Vegas was thriving before the NCR found it, and there's plenty of people outside of the NCR in the Wasteland.

Legion - From one perspective you could see them in the same light that we view the Roman's of the past, noble expansionists. Of course from our 'western' ideology we see them as a bunch of bullies on the playground trying to take over the sandbox. Personally in my opinion if I didn't have the independent path to choose I would go with the legion.

NCR - They look good on paper, that's about it. On the inside they are about as corrupt and evil as it gets, almost mirroring the enclave of FO3. I mean if there isn't any better way to look at it think of what they did at Bitter Springs to the Khans. These guys are basically a better equipped Legion without slavery (and without slavery is a phrase used very loosely)

House - Now this guy new what he was doing, single handedly creating an empire from nothing. He has been around longer than anyone else in the wasteland has, other than Raul and a few other ghouls, thus he obviously knows how the world works a bit better than anyone else. House has observed civilizations crumble and rebuild countless times. However his main flaw is, he will do anything it takes to get what he wants without ever giving much of an idea of why he wants it until he unveils the entire picture. One example being when I had the chip and he threatened me if I wouldn't give it to him. To say the least that was all it took for me to slam my Oh Baby! straight through his fragile skull. In many ways House looks to be the best hope for humanity, but in the end his selfishness and corruption would be his end.

Wild Card - Personal Preference, if you think you can do it better than all the above, go for it, just remember no king can rule forever.

Some the corruption that contented in the NCR is due to the fact they are fighting a far away war and are extremely under-resourced. Things "out west" is much more stable (as Cass put it). For the most part, the everyday citizens and troops of NCR are good people who are trying to bring back civilization.

The perfect solution would have been House/Yes Man getting control of the new robot army protecting the Mojave from raiders and the Legion while letting the NCR stay and keep rebuilding and doing their humanitarian work. While I can see House not wanting to share power, I couldn't see why the courier was forced to kick the NCR out...oh well.

Actually in the NCR Ending (even with you as Good Karma) they still kicks out the Followers of Apoc. They hunt the remenant who helped in the Legion fight. etc. etc.

But the way I look at it

NCR has noble goals with corrupt people in the system, but also noble people as well.

House has Selfish Goals and he is corrupt.

So NCR still wins.

That was the one thing I couldn't understand about the NCR ending. They are willing to work with The Kings and most of the other factions but went and kicked the Fellowers out..it's like kicking the Red Cross out, which is kinda silly..

I have no idea why they did that. Maybe it is because the followers refuse to "assimilate" into NCR. They seems to have the tendency of "If you are not with me, then you are against me!"

Maybe the Followers insisted on providing medical aid to all wounded (regardless if they are Legion or NCR) and the NCR just declared them as war criminals and kicked them out.

/shrug

That is the few ways it makes sense (to me anyways).

The NCR can bring order to the hole nation, House can only control the Mojave :cheat:

And in Fallout:2 the NCR was good. The United States today has some corrupt people. And not corrupt people.

The NCR is just like a small USA in such a situation. House is tring to play god. :obliviongate:

NCR > House

He has an entire army of securitrons being run by an unmatched technology (if you upgrade them). His bots are more than enough to fend off the NCR. He even tells you this.

Bah, all it really takes to bring down Mr House is a missile on the Lucky 38 tower. His entire army dies along with him.

For now. Robots break down. The NCR, meanwhile, just has to outbreed House's army just like they outbred the Brotherhood. Unless House has a fully fledged prewar factory capable of pumping out replacement killbots (possible, I haven't done the house path yet), the NCR will eventually win through raw attrition if it doesn't collapse first. House has a huge army of very powerful killbots, but that huge army can't maintain itself like the NCR's huge army can.

It's why I'm kinda disappointed that the Courier has to kick out the NCR in Wildcard. I would have much rather had Yes Man direct the robot army to give the Legion a mighty stomping along with the NCR (and Brotherhood and Enclave Remnants) and negotiating favorable annexation terms with the NCR for New Vegas.

I have no idea why they did that. Maybe it is because the followers refuse to "assimilate" into NCR. They seems to have the tendency of "If you are not with me, then you are against me!"

It's because the Followers are pretty anti-NCR these days. You can see this in the loading screens and from talking to some of them. The FoTA have good motives, but they're not above sabotaging the NCR's activities and murdering NCR personnel to keep the NCR from finding out that they're stealing from them. (See the quest in West Side about finding the missing NCR Corporal.)

This isn’t a matter of opinion; it is a matter of facts. Mr. House only re-built the pre-war casinos in the Strip after he detected the NCR scouts in the area. Before that New Vegas was nothing but an empty city inhabited by groups of tribals.

If you look at the other powers around New Vegas, you will realize that Mr. House doesn’t really have any choice in trading partners. To the east there is Caesar’s Legion from Arizona, which clearly wants nothing that New Vegas have to offer. To the North East there is the city of New Canaan in Utah. although it is rich and prosperous, the city is rule by a Mormon theocracy, which is highly unlikely to bring lots of tourism to New Vegas, also, the city is too far away from New Vegas for them to have strong economic ties. This leaves the NCR to the west to be the only economic power that can make a difference, too bad Mr. House just basicly declared war on them... oops!

Also, Hoover Dam wasn’t generating any electricity before the NCR engineers repaired it (it was merely in ‘an operational status’), the only reason the dam still functions is because NCR engineers are working around the clock to keep it working. Without the NCR engineers, the dam will not stay working for long. Mr. House might be able to train his own engineers, but that will take him years. By that time New Vegas' economy would have totally fallen apart without the trade and tourism from the NCR.

There is a good ending for the Followers of the Apocalypse in the datafiles in GECK if you side with NCR, are a member of FoA and ask for their help. The problem is that one of the conditions for asking them to help the NCR is wrong and therefor you never get the dialogue option to bring them together and get a good ending. I dont know if that is just a remnant of some unfinished quest or if someone just made a mistake when defining the conditions for that dialogue option to show up. You can enable at least the dialogue for the FoA and NCR alliance by modifying some parameters a bit in GECK but I didnt test it long enough to see if the "good ending" slide for FoA plays when you finish the game.

For me I chose House given that his plans for technological advancement with him as a autocrat I found pleasing in comparison towards NCR's attempts at trying to recreate a flawed republic. A republic that while currupt is expanding too fast for its own good, so fast that it has become more bloated and it is only a matter of time before a civil war of shorts erupts that could divide NCR with relative ease given that many of their forces are spread thin much that the late roman empire. Which is kinda bad when most of their terratory resides in California and already the strains as a empire and division in the ranks of its citizens is worsening.

House on the other end only wants Nevanda for the most part and self interests aside wants to get humanity if only a small percentage back to not only pre war strength in technology but above all leave the wreakage that become much of earths surface and expand. At least a direct if a bit uninterested ruler can get past all of the "red tape", the last thing the mojave needs is a occurpational force that can't protect its self yet alone waste landers.

I will say however that he should try to keep decent relations at least with NCR given that much of his grand plan requires their existence for the time being and caesars legion would only help him by creating a stalemate with NCR given his aversion to technology.
