Housing?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 5:12 am

I plan to play hardcoe and am hoping there will be more housing options available than in F3. I've only heard about the penthouse in Lucky 38 and comped hotel rooms. Has there been any other info about cool housing I've missed?

Nope, but as always, you'll be able to take over random spots you find in the world and store your stuff there. And hopefully the reputation system will lead to lots of new housing too. Since every settlement tracks their own rep with you, I imagine if you get in good with a town they'll want you to move in.

One thing I hope for is being able to sleep in owned beds as long as no one sees you. The "this bed is owned' crap was a mistake in Oblivion, and a mistake in F3.

It's the apocalypse! Who cares if someone "owns" this bed. Got a problem with it? Make me get out of bed! I dare you!

In that case you shouldn't be restricted by a message saying "nooo this are not ur bedd!", but rather you should be punished by waking up dead the next morning... err...

It is confirmed that we can sleep in owned beds this time, we will just take a Karma hit similar to stealing. After all, we are "stealing" someone's bed! Though I do hope beds go to unowned status when their NPC owner dies. I mean, you could argue that stealing a dead guy's stuff is just as wrong as stealing a life guy's stuff (he might have family, friends, etc.), but sleeping in a dead dude's bed is different story. You're not exactly what's keeping him from using it in that case!

I was meaning on a more formal level than "acquired" housing. I doubt the reloading and work benchs can be put in "acquired" housing so I hope there are alot more choices than in F3. Unlees someone heard they are transportable?

Toolboxes? Maybe something like the Super Tool Kit could act as a modding station... You could use it to place mods on your weapons wherever you are, but would still need to go back to a house with workbench to craft any of the schematics weapons.

Well, Ideally there are different locations that have the stuff you need in them. In F3 there were quite a few houses with workbenches, unowned beds, and storage that were up for grabs. You could make a really cool base in some of these places.

I imagine there'll be places like that in New Vegas too. If you find a house with a workbench in it and a bed, feel free to move in is all I'm saying.

In one of the demos for IGN I watched, they stated that if you're a high roller in one of the casino's, they offer you a suite in that casino. So, that means there are definitely more than 2 houses, unlike FO3, but then again, in FO3, you can take over other places in the Wasteland, and just claim it to be your own, just as good as any other. I prefer the official ones though, I just feel more at-home there, I use the other spots as temporary outposts.

Bethesda has always given the player a place to hang their hat and store the loot. I am sure Obsidian will do the same thing

I just hope that we can get some kind of place early on as the SWAG starts piling up very soon.

With reload benches in the game "finding" a home with one as well as a work bench seem unlikely. Reload benches better be portable if they are going to have limited formal housing.

i believe work benches are portable because of the one companion's perk

What house have you heard of other than the casino suite?

The "Regular Maintainence" perk slows the rate of decay. Hauling a work bench around to be able to appreciate would be ridiculous.

Veronica's perk works like a portable work bench

From the blog.

can craft Workbench
items through Veronica’s

I hope they have multiple housing options that are "officially" yours like in oblivion. So we all no that some boxes, storage containers "reset" themselves. You can put an item in there to test it and see if it disappears. I still don't trust this. I feel like I'm going to dump all my precious stuff into a location, and some freak thing is going to happen, and I lose the stuff. If the place is labeled as "mine". I feel like (from the written software aspect) I can trust that my stuff will stay there. They should have something that you can do, or use, that qualifies that place as "yours". I love having housing opitions, so I hope there are several in NV.

Exactly my point. Unfortunately the only info I've seen is comped suites from casinos and the penthouse in Lucky 38. The wide variety of housing mods for F3 sholud be a clear indicator that the community wants more formal options than F3's one "good guy" and one "bad guy" home. I hope I won't be relying on mods to give the choices of a bunker or a cave or something cool.

It is pretty easy from the Editor to determine which containers respawn. Most of them do not after the first access. Note, some containers will have randomly different loot the first time you open them, but, once opened, they go static on what is in there.

What the biggest problem for me is Ownership Transference. You come across a house that no longer has an occupant (not asking why) and you put stuff in their container and it gets ownership from the original owner of the house. It was easy to avoid in most cases as you saw red when looking at it. I also did not have a problem with this as I was careful where I put stuff in this game. What I want is, if the owner of a house is dead, then all containers get set to no owner.

That helps, if it has a work bench and a reload bench can be placed anywhere you want. I still haven't found out anything else about formal housing, anywhere. If a Dev reads this, give us some optimism, please.

I've said it before in these forums, for example; Dukov's house in F3, I cleaned the place, sat down on the chair thinking "yeeeaaahhh, this is my new place, perfect!). Soon I find out that I can't use the bed, I get penalty karma if I store anything, and then take it out. I also don't know a 100% if the stuff won't disappear on me. Every time I looked at that place throughout all my other play throughs, it bugged the hell out of me, thinking about that. BTW, I'm on 360 otherwise I would love to mod out my own home.

I'll play on my PC meaning mods can solve most issues I may have. It would be cool if the game devs give us significant choices from the start.
