How is FO on a 360 controller?

Post » Thu Mar 17, 2011 3:28 pm

I over the past few weeks have been trying to play NV with my mouse and keyboard, however i'v developed CTS (Carpel Tunnel) and I no longer have any feeling on the entire right side of my hand (between my middle finger and ring finger, down to my wrist). This has led to some difficulties when playing any of my games. Since I still have about 60% strength in my thumb//index//middle fingers, I was wondering how well FO works with an xbox 360 controller. I play black ops daily on my ps3, so I know I have the motor control still to use a controller effectively.

I think it works pretty well. Hotkeys are bit fiddly but can be looked past.

I enjoy playing on the 360 very much. Like Skoomaholics said, though, the hotkeys can be finicky, though in my case, it may be due to the fact that I need a new controller. Because it's pretty worn in lol

I have a great deal of trouble aiming accurately. Some games seem to be better at this than others and I can aim quite well. This one not so much.

I love my 360 controller, though I don't have a choice being on the 360.... Anyway, it is a very comfortable controller and seems to work rather well with FONV. As another said aiming with a controller is much more difficult than with a mouse, but thats going to be the case will basically all controllers v. mice (er,mouses?)

Yes I agree, but for some reason it seems to be easier with some games than others. Don't exactly know what it is.

that's just because of aim-assist. like in CoD you can aim easier because the game is helping you aim, but certain games have little to no aim-assist, so you will be less accurate until you get used to it.

Put as politely as possible. It [censored] svcks. You don't have the option to consol your way out of all the [censored] ups Bethesda didn't play test when they made this game. Bethesda doesn't give a [censored] about improving or repairing everything they did badly and you aren't able to aquire user made content like the computer version so you cant even get a community repair. There's no reason to buy this game for the xbox 360. you're better off not playing it.

This isn't a question about bugs. It's about how the game works with the controller.

If you're used to using an Xbox controller, Fallout should play just fine on it.

If you have carpal tunnel then surely you have to abandon all thoughts of poorer handling when using a controller in favour of a much needed relief from your ailment.

360 controller works fine, especially if you're use to FPS on controllers. 360 controller IMO has the best anolog sticks for shooters. BUT they aren't as accurate as a mouse by any means so you will be in VATs more often than not. The game changes the buttons to the controller's letters too which is nice so it is exactly the same scheme as on the 360.

True story, I stayed away from PC games for a years cause my system couldn't handle it. When I went back to mouse/keyboard I hated it... for a day. But now I can't go back to a controller, it's just not as precise. People are comfortable with what they use first/the most and I notice many console gamers hating the mouse/keyboard setup for that reason but I don't think they even give it a try. Now if you have carpel tunnel I of course advice against keyboard!

I played FO3 through will Xbox Controller plugged in my PC and it worked really well, better than keyboard and mouse that I started off with.

Planning on playing through NV with Xbox Controller, once I start (once fixing patch is posted).
