How do I add a mod?

I'm trying to add the increased wasteland spawns and a world of pain mods, but I don't know how.

Basically, mods get unzipped into the ..\data folder then you turn them on by clicking the "data" option in the startup menu.

You have downloaded them, i take it? Next step is to extract them to the data folder, path will be something like C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\FalloutNV\Data. World of Pain is easy, you only need to extract the file with .esm extension. With IWS extract all the esm and esp files, but you can only have one of the Low/mid/high spawns plugin active at one time.

Once you have the files in the data folder, you need to activate them. You can either use the "Data Files" option in the launcher, just check the files there. But preferrably use http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36901, makes things easier to handle. If you think can handle more advanced tools, get http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35003 too. It is scary at first, but extremely useful when you learn how to use it.

If you use FOMM or WF, make sure the mod files load after Falloutnv.esm and DLC esms. With those two mods it shouldn't matter in which order you load them, but esm will have to load before esp's. If you decidde to add more mods, http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35999 will come in handy (it says "Oblivion" but it works for New Vegas too).

After that you're ready to play.

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36901 should be the very first thing you install. Most mods can be installed via FOMM. It's so easy a caveman can do it. :whistling: okay, well maybe not, but it's not that hard to do. I think there are still tutorials floating around on youtube on how to install mods using FOMM. If I can find the link, I provide it for you.

EDIT: found the link. This is a four part video series. It was made for Fallout 3, but should work for New Vegas just the same. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_ix-dOGfXs&feature=related.

Whoops, missed one step on IWS install. To use the Low/Med/High plugins you need http://nvse.silverlock.org/. Use the first download link, and extract all DLL and EXE files from the archive to FalloutNV folder (not Data like mods).

It will work without NVSE too, but you can't use
IWS-AS-LowSpawns.esp
IWS-AS-MedSpawns.esp
IWS-AS-HighSpawns.esp
files.

I just played 10 minutes with high spawn. These mods are AMAZING. It basically makes the mojave wasteland into a REAL WASTELAND. This is what the game should have been in the first place !!!

Finally something challenging for my level 40 character who has too many toys to play with and can actually use my ammo. I was just running around with a minigun and having a blast !!
