How Are There Infinite Dragons?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 6:41 pm

Shouldn't there only be 1 dragon for every dragon burial? With the exception of the "main" dragons such as Alduin of course. Where did all of the extra dragons come from?

Maybe he re-revives them after you kill them.

pretty sure they just respawn as the game progresses. After you finish the storyline supposedly they get less appearance in numbers but we should just assume once we kill a random dragon it just appears again. They're like the enemies in final fantasy or other rpg's(besides dragon age) most of them just respawn after several days or in game weeks.

We don't know what happens with the souls once they're eaten. What about the other Dragonborns throughout time who supposedly slew Dragons and consumed their souls. These are supposedly the same Dragons.

What happens when you eat food. That food is not technically, permanently gone, if you know what I mean.

They keep coming simply because it's a video game. I bet there are no lore reasons.

the game says you absorb the memories and power, i just guessed that meant the entire dragon

There might be a huge plot hole behind it actually. If when a Dragonborn devours a Dragon's soul they are permanently killing it (not necessarily confirmed) they wouldn't be able to be resurrected by Alduin. These are the same dragons that were killed off by the Dragonborns from thousands of years ago.

One explanation is perhaps Dragon's absorbed souls are released when the Dragonborn dies.

You got a point there.

Now I remember someone saying that the dragon's were killed but that not all had been killed by dragonborn's. "As only the Dragonborn can permenently kill a dragon." which I found on this pagehttp://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:A_Blade_in_the_Dark

On the Dragonstone map I counted 21 "X" mark's the spot's, But the placement look's like those are the Dragon's that watch over the wordwall's. ( maybe not all )

I would guess that there are more mound's than those marked on that map.

The same reason there are infinite sabrecats, trolls, mudcrabs, etc. Because it's a game and if they were finite in number the game would be over very quickly.

Dragon conspiracy, living in a secret world buried deep beneath Skyrim, think along the lines of Jurassic Park.

Although you don't see it in the skeleton mesh, you can actually take the dragon's bones, so they would come back missing vital body parts.

it would be logical to have the number of dragons = to burials, but things can be easily sophisticated. example, there are probably dragon burials elsewhere in tamerial as they ruled more than just skyrim.

but the reason why there are infinite dragons is because they are one of the main features of the game and it would be dumb if suddenly you were to run out of dragons to kill when that was a major selling point.

There are areas of Skyrim and surrounding provinces that are inaccessible. They obviously come from there.

It would actually be kind of cool to have a a finite set number of dragons in any given play through. Imagine if there was exactly the amount of bones/scales to make one set of dragon armor. Or far fewer dragon souls available to unlock all the shouts to full power. Would add an interesting element.

As a mathematician chiming in, I'd just like to ask people to stop using "infinite" to mean "unbounded". No one has seen an "infinite" number of dragons. I doubt anyone has seen more than a thousand. There's no such thing as an "infinite number" within the system of counting numbers. The correct term is "unbounded".

Why are there infinite histcarp? Shouldn't they become absent from rivers if I catch them all?
Its a game it does not have to make perfect sense.
