How do blind snow elves use bows?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 9:36 pm

Me and my friend were discussing about Skyrim and when I told him about blind snow-elves and shooting bow and arrows he asked "How do blind elves shoot bows and arrows"? I never even thought of this until now. I guess they had a super-high sense of hearing or something. Im not sure can someone clarify this?

How do blind animals fly? (bats). Sounds.

Because they have evolved to be blind, their other senses enhance.

When people go blind, their other senses are enhanced to super-human levels.

Fact.

How does an attack submarine locate surface ships to torpedo?

It hears them.

With sophisticated enough signal processing and appropriately accurate, sensitive and discerning sensors, weapons can be directed at a target thru the use of sound.

However:
A profound weakness in the game is the fact that the olfactory senses of the Falmer appear to be insufficiently developed - despite their long nasal passages - to discern scent. Hence, my 2nd character, a level 73 thief/assassin, can sneak up to falmer and give them a sudden case of death with no problem whatsoever.

Its actually a real life fact that when you lose a sense, another one becomes stronger. In the Falmer Case they lost there eye sight, but gained enhanced hearing. Mix that with Magic, and Giant Elf ears, and then you have your answer :)

Bats actually see fine, but they do need sonar in dark caves.

I know about the enchanced senses and such but...no one can seriously hear footstops from very long distances could they? That sounds bloody impossible you would have to sense or feel the soundwaves that derives from such a small sound to be able to direct exactly where they are at for you to fire your arrow and then you have to predict which direction they will move to ascertain the direction of your line of fire.

The nostrils are probably shaped than way to emit sound like in a http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/665373/horseshoe-bat.

Have you seen their ears? Echo-location is how they do it. In fact, they can probably reconstruct the entire cave system in their minds just based on the sound echos as they walk through it.

Well as in usual game/movie fiction, what you lack in sight you can make up in developing higher sense and hearing wouldn't be the first time or original but there it is.

Because their hearing is far more sensitive. They see with their ears.

I have a friend who is blind. He can walk through a room full of furniture and miss most of it. He says he can hear where the furniture is. Well, he describes it as he can hear where the furniture is not because of the echos. He has best success in a house with hardwood floors. He still taps around with his cane until he knows the layout of the room in his mind, but he gets around pretty good in a room that is strange to him.

And think about it, the Falmer have been living in Dwarven ruins for ages upon ages. Generations have grown up in them, they know them like the back of their hands, couple that with their hyper sensitive hearing and they could easily fire an arrow in the general direction you're in.

If you try it yourself for a while, you get a small taste of what it would be like to rely on other senses, I can quite easily tell the general direction of a sound without actually opening my eyes, think what a creature with hyper sensitive hearing could tell from a sound.

In addition to hearing, I figure they can also sense the enemies body heat.

Also, since they are elves they are likely more attuned to magic and so can sense an opponent's magicka.

They could use a sort of sonar like subs, bats, dolphins etc. Some blind people do it in real life to effectively see. They make clicking sounds and listen to see where the sound bounces back.
