So how is my Character looking so far?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 2:35 pm

I tried to ask people on the GameFAQs messages boards.. but they were all like "you type to damned much" or "idc, harhar yer stupid, jus play da game" and I decided to come to a more.. Mature part of the town. Welcome me IGN as I am new here! But warning, I do type a lot!

Anyways, I'm level 11. I'm playing on Adept (I like to play the game the way it was meant to be played from the start) and the game kinda feels easy. I really don't want to change the difficulty (don't ask why, just an OCD thing) and I was wondering if my character built thus far is looking good. I kinda like feeling strong but I don't want myself to be immediately overwhelmed as I get higher levels nor end up as a God that slaughters everything in one hit. I fear I might be leveling oddly as I put perks in different areas at different times but I try to

focus on a single few skills at the beginning.

My character is a male Bosmer who focuses on an Assassin type build. I specialize mainly in archery and sneak but I'm not afraid to whip out a sword and shield when the moment calls for it. I don't really use magic (not yet) but I plan on maybe a little later in the game adding some illusion spells to my character to help.. well, you know, be more assassin like. I'd like to smith a bit too later on. I've also done a few bits and pieces on the Companions guild and needless to say, I acquired their (trying to avoid spoilers) legendary, secret gift. I prefer light armor over heavy armor because it just seems like that is what an assassin build would use. Plus, in lore, almost all assassins used it!

Anyways, to really understand what I'm saying here, I'll post my stats and perks. But first, allow me to give an example on how I play.

*Enters a dungeon with two floors, starting off on the second floor. Below me is five skeletons. I sneak into the dark, pull out my bow and quick snipe the first one when the others aren't looking. I repeat for the next two but get caught in the act. They run up the stairs starting to rush me and with no time to counter with my bow, I sword and shield my way through the last two. Coming in the door from the 1st floor are three more. I jump back into the shadows and begin to pick them off silently. After that, 5 move enter the room and all of them spot me. Instead of sword and shielding them, I use the Companions gift to rid of them quickly.*

This is pretty much how I play ^ as I don't really try to rush into situations. I take my time, think out my choices and act only when necessary.

Anyways, here's my character's stats.

So how am I looking so far? Am I putting perks in wrong places based on how I want my character to be? Or am I looking good so far? I appreciate any help given to me on this topic as well as any insight or tips on how I better my character. I'm not into cheating or glitching the game, so please no tips on that. Also, keep the spoilers down to low.

Thank you!

Are you planning on joining the Thieves Guild? They give you some fairly decent armor, as does the Dark Brotherhood. I would say youre on the right track with your perks so far, i find its best not to spread them out too much too early. If youre wanting to retain some challenge, I would definitely avoid wasting perks on smithing, unless youre interested in the dragon armour. i see you have a soul snare dagger, are you using soul gems?

Soul Gems? Not at all. It was just the strongest dagger I had came across at that moment.

As usual, Aphaea talks a lot of sense. You seem to be on a good track now, but might be heading into spreading your perks and skills too widely (e.g. archery and a dual-wield ill do a sneaky character very nicely and you can then save the perks on the blocking tree). I would also take note of Aphaea hint, in your shoes I'd head over to Riften and make friends with the Thieve's Guild about now. By the time you have finished their quest line you will be an accomplished sneak with back-stab skills to match, which you can hone by joining the Dark Brotherhood (high sneak plus 30x stab can take care of most things, though you can still die when you muck up) . Oh, one last thing, I shouldn't put any more perks into Light Armour, if you do sneak you shouldn't need armour.

Well I have come to the conclusion (after trying a lot of builds) that all of them can be cool and fun to use. I have settled for an Argonian with no real build to speak of. Your character seems like a versatile assassin, almost a ranger if you will. As I say, the only way to go wrong is being a jack-of-all trades...or using destruction.

By the way, here's a cool site where you can allocate your perks and then link it to your comment so you don't have to write it out; http://skyrimcalculator.com/

For my characters i usually pick a max of 5 perk trees and roll from there.
Playing on expert, no use of followers unless quests force them on you and I pretty much only use a perk when I think i need improvements in a particular area, to make sure things stay interesting and challenging.
