How come no Bound Shield?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 7:40 am

Would love my Arcane Archer who has master Archery and is now starting to fight low level foes with a Bound Sword to be able to summon a shield... Bet it would look VERY cool...

Well you could argue that the wards in the restoration tree are magical shields.

Oblivion did have a bound shield, it was an expert level conjuration spell. I'm disappointed about the lack of bound armour types, it would fit so well with my current playthrough.

I'm wondering what an arcane archer is doing with a shield in the first place. Last I checked bows are two handed, which means you're using a 1H weapon. Which means you're not an archer. Which means your not an arcane archer.
Some say this game does not have a class system, but I feel it does.
You wanna bash with a shield, and cast spells? You gotta be a spell sword.
Focus on ranged combat with magic and archery? Better learn to sneak and duck into shadows.
They say "you can do anything with one character" but that's not true, and more importantly, nor should it be.

No bound armour either.

I hope we get some new effects in the upcoming DLC.

Since Archery is at 100 and I like to continue to level I am starting to learn how to fight one-handed... I don’t agree an Arcane Archer must restrict themselves to not using a hand weapon ever... it keeps the game interesting to me...

I'd say we have different opinions about what constitutes an archer, then. What level are you currently? Have you considered starting a new character?

IMO, an archer uses the bow as his primary weapon, but this does not mean he can't use anything else as his backup in case he needs to get up and close.

You can hardly bind any Daedric weapons or armor any more in Skyrim. :\

Did Legolas use a shield?
Other than to slide, of course. An archer, a REAL archer, uses the bow - and nothing else. At your level, you're fighting stuff too powerful to be taken down with feeble 1H skills. What's your sneak?

Guess I'm not a REAL archer then. Wolves don't level with you. I'm also tired of one hitting everything with my bow. Regular bandits are fun to fight with secondary combat skills. RPG means play the role you want. My archers learning how to fight one-handed now get over it.

Not in my opinion, nope. Which, mind you is wroth nothing to anyone other than myself.
The game's fatal flaw is the scaling system, which as you said, prevents you from being able to go back to a low level dungeon and "start over". I'm guessing you're reaching for lvl 50 before starting a new character? The reason I ask is because my archer is currently level 51 and has maxed archery, sneak, and alchemy. Since you said Arcane archer, I'd also assume you have fairly high restoration, destruction, illusion and alteration. Also, if you're not summoning monsters to distract enemies while shooting at them ur doin it wrong. Max all of these and you'll have NO PROBLEM hitting 50.

I actually like traveling around in my robes only carrying 35 pounds or so total... until I loot a dungeon... Shields have weight.... Also I think the animation of a sword and shield appearing in my hands while I dual cast would be pretty sweet...

how much do you loot? as a mage i basically only take gold and jewelry, and the occasional magical item if i don't have the enchantment.

...and alchemy stuff. always.

thats actually pretty much standard for all my characters. i don't think i ever walk out with >70 lbs of [censored].

I like the character progression, and she seems like a strong/fun character. I'd say she's pretty much at the peak of her game, though. If it were me, I'd consider starting a new character.

I was looking forward to dual summonings but since I'm getting a PC today I'm going to need to start over anyways. Where is UPS?
