I don't think you understand the killing power of a nuclear explosion at all.

I do, Because it would kill the person firing the Mini-nuke, And anyone near them.

I'm not saying it should be weak, I'm just saying the C4 has an underpowered force.

Mini-nuke = Suicide Bomber

The Fat Man isn't a nuke? Huh... I mean, the ammo is named "Mini Nuke".

A brief stroll around wiki:

The smallest nuclear weapon ever built was the projectile projectile fired by the Davy Crockett artillery, which is apparently called the M388 nuclear projectile. It had an explosive equivalent of either 10 or 20 tons of TNT. It weighed 34.5kgrams.

C4 on the other hand, is about 20% more powerful than TNT. Its primary advantage is its stability, not its power. 34.5kgrams of C4 would be the equivalent of about ... 41.4kgrams of TNT.

Let's compare. 10000 versus 41.4. Hmmmmm. <_<

So either the Fatman and its mini-nukes aren't actually nuclear weapons at all, or the game designers Failed To Do The Research by three orders of magnitude.

I think anyone who has played FO3 or FONV knows that the Fatman is not a Nuclear Bomb. It is a HE Bomb that has enough Thermal Energy to create a Mushroom Cloud that is packaged in a case that looks like a small mini nuclear bomb.

For your information. I've played Fallouts 1 through to New Vegas. The Fatman is not a nuclear bomb, its a launcher; that fires MINI NUCLEAR BOMBS.

You're on the money with this one. C4 is incredibly deadly. During Raven school I had the pleasure of being educated about pretty much every explosive compound known to man, and C4 is definitely up there with just about anything.

I'm just guessing on the numbers, but if we're talking realism, the C4 should probably pretty much kill anything in the same room or within 30-50 feet or so outdoors. The Mini Nukes should kill everything for a mile or so, including the person that fired it. IMO the Fat Man is a ridiculous, gimmicky weapon that's nowhere near plausible, even in a world governed by Science!™ That's just my opinion. There's no way to balance it appropriately without making it a suicide weapon.

In theory it can be done, but yeah its a suicide gun.

The problem in fallout nv is the devs factored in radius of explosion as a damage factor. So they often have several explosives with near or equal damage with the only difference being radius. The radius on the fatman is 2100 units.. now thats 3x the radius of a 40 mm nade and thus 9x the area.

What they seem to forget is the damage falls off inside that radius and so the fatman is realy just an annoyer of the masses not a mighty weapon.

I shot a deathclaw today with one and it just emerged from the colossal explosion barely hurt. It was still unrealistic on Fallout 3; but at least it got the job done.

I agree, explosives are soooooooo underpowered in this game. I mean I don't even think you can kill Lanius with a Fatman in 1 hit. which is ridiculous. i dont care how mini it is, it is a nuclear explosion, if it hits someone head on, it should not only do a good amount of non-explosive damage (from a big metal thing bigger than your head launching at you), but also the NUCLEAR EXPLOSION occuring on impact.

yeah, maybe if it was like a guy in T-51B and it exploded like.....over 30 yards away and he was braced.....then maybe he could survive. but thats still a nuclear explosion.

C4 is rockin though, its surprising how epic it is. claymores too (despite what CoD would have you think, claymore not only blow up partially backwards as well, but they are very large explosions). just wish there was more C4 and it was easier to find....

From what I gathered it mostly has to do with how the effects are scripted, and how DT works.

I believe the question should be: "Why is the Fat Man so ridiculously underpowered in FONV?

The Fat Man in general is a bit ridiculous when comparing it to reality. It should be the ultimate in blowing stuff up, including yourself, somehow it got nerfed in FONV to the damage level of a slightly larger missile launcher, but with much less ammo to feed it, making it a double nerf.

With the amount of Mini Nuke ammo dispersed in the FONV game world it should be doing the same damage and splash radius as the MIRV (another ridiculous concept weapon from FO3) but using only one Mini-Nuke with the chance of you dying or getting brutally maimed in the process of course. But I guess the Archimedes is now the king of the redonkulous concept weapons in FONV, but even then It's still kinda nerfed. LOL

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the redonkulous and unique sci-fi concept weapons, but they shouldn't be nerfed on both scarcity and damage. Please pick one or the other. Thank you. ;)

Agreed. I wish a dev could shed some knowledge onto this.
