How complicated is it to use others' mods?

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 11:43 am

So I'd been meaning to save up and get a new PC for ages now (mine won't even run the Witcher) and I've been pushed into it by seeing all the fun mods for Skyrim out there.

Trouble is I've never really used mods in any game before because I felt quite intimidated - I get stressed out trying to work out how to do anything that isn't specifically already in the game.

I don't really know how any of it works and was wondering how you go about it. Since there is a Creation Kit is there a place I can go which is user-friendly (or rather idiot-friendly) where I can just click a button and have it done for me? Sorry if I'm not explaining myself properly.

If there is a thread explaining this already can I have a link to it?

I want to be sure I understand enough about it before I get the PC.

Also is there anything I need to keep in mind or watch out for?
My brain is mushy right now so if I'm not making sense then I'm sorry.

The steam workshop, you find a mod and click subscribe, thats it

Over at skyrim nexus, you download the mod manager, and with that you can download and install mods extremely easily, its nothing like the old days anymore

To get you used to it, I'd recommend using Nexus Mod Manger to download and activate your mods. It will install then for you properly. On the mod page, you can choose Download With Manager, and if you have NMM installed, all you have to do is activate the mod once download is complete :)

Steam workshop is easy to, just subscribe to the mod, load skyrim through steam, and it'll activate it for you.

Wonderful :D Thank you both.
I had figured that Steam would be fairly easy but I wasn't sure.

Now I just have to try to be patient whilst I save up.

Also, if you go to the elderscrolls news page http://www.elderscrolls.com/community/we-ve-created-monster-and-you-will-too-0/ it explains how the Creation Kit works and around 1 minute in shows how you subscribe and download mods. Just a button press.
