How cool do u think S.M.A.R.T is gonna be

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:41 pm

I honestly think it is going to be awesome with the smart system, the only question is, how is it gonna look when u see other players climb, vault, and slide.

yepp, its gonna be pretty beast, but i think that, once noobs get hold of it, you'll see people just sliding and stuff, or jumping on top of things for no reason, but for the players that know how to use it right, it'll work very, incredibly well

I think it is a nice way to add more action to a shooter. Quake 3 is one of the best fps games I've ever played and mostly because of intense action and high-speed movements. But if you don't know how to strafe jump or use rockets to get around you will just die cause you are more or less a sitting duck. But Brink seem to have compensated the fast movements and actions with an easy way to perform them.

I know HORSE said this because I remember reading it, but im not going to go find the quote...

"Anything you can do with the SMART button, you're able to do without it. Players who do their own moves should actually have a slight advantage over those who use the button."

"It's not an autopilot, you don't enter a canned animation that you can't get out of, it's great for advanced players too."- Paul Wedgewood, Freedom of Movement Preview.
He also says that you can tell the game if you want to go over or under something by just aiming over or below it and hit the SMART button.

Lol.

In all seriousness, you should be able to do 0:34-0:37, 1:24-1:27, 2:09-2:19, and anything else on this video's channel lol.

[edit:] and EVERYTHING in this one, I could swear it never gets boring...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtY0978oni8&feature=channel especially 0:26-0:27, 0:48-0:51, 1:02-1:06, 1:19-1:21 (you would die if he kicked you), 1:29-1:32, 1:44-1:45, 2:05-2:07 (Falcon Paunch!), 2:30-2:32, 3:59-4:04, 4:09-4:12,4:17-4:20, 4:28-4:42, 4:55-5:04. Pretty much everything.

Yea, to add on... thet also said if you do without the SMART button, then you get more experience or something a long those lines. They talk about it in this interview:

you don't get more experience, you just have potential to do things faster and more fluid.

SMART - you're running down a corridor, you come to a ledge and automatically climb it when you reach it.

Manual - you're running down a corridor, you come to a ledge and jump before you reach it, either clearing it, or sliding across the top.

Same things with walls, SMART will climb it when you come to it, Manually, you could jump and start climbing from like mid-way up the wall already.

Exactly, which is why it would be so much more action packed if you could jump and move to areas on your own. Not when you get to an obstacle it auto-jumps for you. You should be able to have almost complete control of what you do with your avatar. :D So, guess what im with MANUAL!
- If they could have that concept like "Mirrors Edge" it would be a phenomenon!!

I think most people will end up using the button, or not at all, but that might depend on how difficult it is to master the movement.

It's as hard as holding down a button...even when doing the moves manually...I think people can manage that.

I can imagine somebody sitting there just shouting "I can't do it!" at his controller.

I think Brink's SMART system is going to be as cool as... either sliced bread (jk) or this http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1086432-a-fps-game-concept-i-have-been-writing/

I wanted to post this on this forum, but I realized it would be off topic.

Btw, if you want to post about the link, do it on the other thread, not here because it would drive this thread off topic.

Bet my bottom dollar that'd be me. But i'd be crying as well.

And maybe a combination of Manual and SMART, so using H0RSE's example, You use manual to get onto the ledge quicker, so you carry more speed, then use SMART to do the complicated stuff at a higher starting speed, rather than slowed from clambering over.

According to this: http://hiphopgamershow.ning.com/profiles/blogs/brink-dev-says-xbox360-can - S.M.A.R.T. works differently depending on body type. Light characters can vault and jump over almost anything, perhaps even climbing walls. The heavy-bodied characters can only jump over things that are waist high.

why would you want to do it manually. the developers are trying to make the game even easier for you to play but you want to put yourself at a disadvantage

I don't think the "advantage" of doing it manually over using the smart button, is going to be game-breakingly different. Personally, I will be doing everything manual, because that's what I'm used to.

im not saying that im gonna use smart all the time. ill try it out at first and if i dont like it ill do everything manually. im just curious on which button will be used. will it be the a,x,b,y buttons or maybe the right or left bumper?
