How does a shot gun work?

Last I checked the advantage to a shot gun is you don't really need to aim it at short range and hit your target. I am using the single-shot shotgun and if the reticule is even slightly off from my target it does no damage. That kinda defeats the purpose. It is just a rifle with really [censored] range.

well, i did notice a bit of the same things however i was def not centered on a bloat fly and still killed it. In real life a shotgun doesnt spread as much as say halo so maybe they are trying to be realistic, and although ive only played for an hour or so and almost immediately spent all my shells into the air after stealing which im sure is the same shotty u used, i have to say, id expect a slightly more spread but i think it jsut does intense damage closer. idk

Well in real life a shotgun has a much farther range then games depict. So if that was the case they should of increased the range (and I did test that just encase).

IRL a shotgun is effective up to 25-30-35 meters. (10-15 yards?) In F3 a shotgun lost their effectiveness at ranges above 3-5 feet since the spread was insane. Haven't tried F:NV yet but it sounds like they have an even bigger spread or the spread is really narrow like a real one
