How does the potion of fortify smithing works?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 10:21 pm

Hello, I was yesterday in the alchemy lab, en i found out how to make a potion of fortify smitting, i created one that improves weapon and armor improving by 24 percent for 30 seconds. I tought, whoohoo, great, now i can make my armor a little stronger, So i went to the workbench, trowed my Banned Iron Armor on it, and there was standing i could improve it from 32 Armor to 42 armor (exquisite) I backed out again.

So, if my cointing is right, that is a improvement by 10 points, 24 percent of 10 points is 2,4 (:P that's not the hardest mathematic) so with the potion i needed to be able to make a 44 armor.

So, I drink the potion, go back to the workbanch, improve my armor, but guess what, it still could only go to 42 armor.

so, can someboddy please tell me what i did wrong? or do i need to use the potion in a total other way?

thanks for the help

Greetings

Tella

It is improving your Smithing skill rather than the straight armor rating.

For HEAPS of info about Skyrim in general, there is a post that others and I have created called the "Character Design Freedom" threads. For a link to our section on Smithing and how it works, click below:

Edit: Snippet of relevant info from our Guide to answer your question: "All enchantments and potion effects that concern Smithing will do nothing but increase your effective skill."

Oh, okej, those 2 posts realy helped

So, if i am right,

I am now a level 67 in smitting, my potion would gain me then 16 points, so i would be level 83 for 30 seconds, and, because that does not reach the 100 matk, i will not see anny difference

So, i better wait untill i am level 81 before i use my other 24 percent potion

Thanks for the help

Tella

BTW, does it work the same for the potion that improves Enchanting ?
