How do I edit?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:26 am

Well not really a geck issue, but not sure where to post this so I will ask here.

I am trying to use the file http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34754 to make it so it uses the colored icons in the picture but not that hud, I want to keep the original hud that is in game.

I am trying to edit the file that would be the interfaceshared0.dds. When i convert it over from dds to jpg it makes it a black background so it does not stay transparent. So if I make changes to it, and change back to a .dds file it makes everything have black squares around it.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

You're converting the .dds to a .jpg first of all. Can jpegs even do transparency? Download Nvidia's .DDS plugin for photoshop, or if you don't have that then whatever the DDS plugin is for Gimp, and Gimp if you need that too. Gimp is a free substitute for Photoshop. There are probably many others too, but keep the .dds file.

.png files will retain transparency, but keeping them as a .dds file is still better. I've had problems with certain .dds files, where I had to open them and save them again in dxt3 before they would display properly, and although I don't think the menu icons are affected, most items need mipmaps to display properly.

If it works as intended then more power to you, I've just had poor results trying to convert files back and forth.
